103."The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

Position: I think studying history has values of three different aspects, from micro-person, through a macro-nation to human beings above the other two.  

A-  By studying of what happened in the past, people gain wisdom of their precedent and apply it to their daily life. The ability to learn from history is one of the best and exclusive merits of human beings, comparing with any create in the world.
B-  For the whole country, the research on history is far-reaching to its political, economical as well as cultural systems.
c-   Furthermore, some fundamental studies of history is still of importance and great value to the entire human beings, although they seem far away from our daily lives.

  In current lives, many people think it useless and out-of-date to study history. However the claim points out the connection between study of history with our daily life which I can’t agree any more. But after a few seconds of thinking, I realize there are a few differences between the claim and me. In my opinion, the value of this study not only lies in affecting ordinary person’s daily life, but also the whole country, even our entire human beings.

Basically, by studying of what happened in the past, people gain wisdom of their precedent and apply it to their daily life. The ability to learn from history is one of the best and exclusive merits of human beings, comparing with any create in the world. In daily life, it is very often to meet a problem which one has never confronted before. Appealing to history is one of the best ways to resolve it, especially when one finds difficult to get satisfying answers from asking teachers, friends and parents. Persons who want to do well in some realm such as media, but don’t know what to do and how to do, always begin with studying those who had great achievements and valuable contributions in this career. They gather and read carefully historical materials about lives, struggles, decisions of those great persons. From these introductions or autobiographies, they learn professional skills and effective methods in dealing with problems which they wound face with unavoidably in and out of their work. The other effect of history on our daily lives is to help us avoid mistakes. Once my professor told me that he read historical books one hour at night to examine and reflect on his own behaviors, thoughts in each day.

For the whole country, the research on history is far-reaching to its political, economical as well as cultural systems. As we all know, reasonable policies toward another country are based on the grasp of historical relations between two countries and the historical analysis on its politics, economics and cultures. Studying the Great Depression from 1920s to 1930s involving many western countries is enlightening to the adjustment of Asian countries’ economical policies after Asian Financial Crisis. As for the national and ethnical cultures, study of history has more important and difficult duties----first to notice the emergency of protecting some traditions and heritages, then help policy-makers take necessary measures and professional methods.

Furthermore, some fundamental studies of history is still of importance and great value to the entire human beings, although they seem far away from our daily lives. Study on history of climate changing and creates extinguishment, alert people around the world to struggle together with the problems of environmental pollution. Studies on two world wars tell us the nature of the war and the way to avoid it. How to prevent a disaster? When it happened, how to work together to get out of this great trouble? The answers lies in study of social and natural disaster happened before. Our ancestors have been devoted to discover the essences and secrets of society and nature. And our generations further this endless exploring with the help of their achievements.

It is wise to learn from history, extract useful things from studying, and adapt them into our own life, while it’s not reasonable to limit values of this study in personal interests and current results. Because study of history sheds a light on nation’s decisions and what’s more, it has a great influence on generations of us.
