TOPIC: ISSUE177 - "The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes."
The speaker asserts that the study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. I strongly agree with the assertion. And the further assertion that we see the same world as before with different eyes after studying the discipline seems even true after anaylize several different academic area.
First, the way we we perceive the world are greatly affuenced by our education backgroud, our experience in the field. People have such a tendency that they are more interested in the area they are relatively familar with than the other areas, thus know even more about it. And like to interprete the world with what they have learned or what they have experienced. When four people stand before a tree, the carpenter's interest is whether it can be used to make a nice table; the zhiwuxuejia is try to make clear which category this tree likely fall into; the poet is greatly attracted by the atmosphere it construct in the surrendings; the pinter just think of bringing it into his cavans. Looking at the same object, different professional backgroud render them the totally different understanding.
Moreover, compared with our own initial impression of the same object, we may get the far different understanding after studying the discipline. When we were young, the parents always told us how important it is to form the good custom in life, one very small thing--wash hands befor dinners. we still cannot do it very even under the repeated criticis, regard it as a small thing untill one day the teacher told us how danger it is to use the dirty hands, even looks clean, to touch food, the gem in our hands will be eaten with the food. What the teacher told at class remind us to wash hands before dinner more effectively than the criticise from parents.
Concider the students who study science highly likely to do things with more logic and ananylize, but less imagination compared with their counterparts who art or liture. the one whose major is software design prefer to do all the things according to certain strict process. What is the first thing supposed to be the most urgent and what to do then, and what is prerequisite of certain action, that is to say whether this action can be performed well depend on whether its conditions are satisfied. Also there shoud be concideration of certain relolustion to the exceptions arised beyond our antisipation. All the same as the design of software process. And the students whose major is machnics like to compare the whole sociaty as a big machine. The organiztions, the groups, even the individuals in the sociaty are regared as the parts of the machine accordingly. Whether the machine can work well closely relies on the performance of every parts. In short, we are customed to use what we have learned to help us perceive the world we don't know.
In sum, the way we percive the world is a reflection of what we have learned. Different knowledge backgroud will draw the totally different conclution to same object. The more we learned, the more comprehensive understanding we are likely to get. Thus lool at the same thing at different angle will help us observation more objectively.
The speaker asserts that the study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. I strongly agree with the assertion. And the further assertion that we see the same world as before with different eyes after studying the discipline seems even true after anaylize(analyzing) several different academic area.
First, the way we perceive the world is greatly influenced by our education background, our experience in the field. People have such a tendency that they are more interested in the area they are relatively familiar with than the other areas, thus know even more about it. And like to interpret the world with what they have learned or what they have experienced. When four people stand before a tree, the carpenter's interest is whether it can be used to make a good table; the zhiwuxuejia(botanist) is trying to make clear which category this tree likely fall into; the poet is greatly attracted by its leafs and flowers as well as the meaning they conveyed to the observers; the painter just think of bringing it into his canvas. Looking at the same object, different professional backgrounds render them get totally different observation results.
Moreover, compared with our own initial impression of the same object, we may get(build 还是form呢,比get好) the far different understanding after studying the discipline. When we were young, the parents always told us how important it is to form the good custom in life, such as one very small thing--wash hands before dinners. We still cannot do it very well even under the repeated criticism, and regard it as a small thing until one day the teacher told us how danger it is to use the dirty hands, even looks clean, to touch foods, for the gem in our hands will be eaten with the food. Consider the students who study science highly likely to do things with more logic and analysis, but less imagination compared with their counterparts who art or literature. The one whose major is software design prefer to do all the things according to certain strict process. What is the first thing supposed to be the most urgent, and what to do then, and what is prerequisite of certain action, that is to say whether this action can be performed well depend on whether its conditions are satisfied. Also there should be consideration of certain resolution to the exceptions arising beyond our anticipation. The design of software process is completely applied to life(应用到生活可以这样说吗?). And the students whose major is mechanics like to compare the whole society as a big machine. The organizations, the groups, even the individuals in the society are regarded as the parts of the machine accordingly. Whether the machine can work well closely relies on the performance of every part. In short, we are accustomed to use what we have learned to help us perceive the world we don't know.
