Many people consider that nomainstream areas of inquiry are absolutely unconvincing, and harmful for the science. However, I do not agree with their opinion. Nonmainstream areas have existed in this world from a very ancient time, and its long living proves that it is meaningful for human being.

A very popular trend in nowaday business field is that many companies prefer to invite some fortune-tellors or augurs to evaluate the location of the company, the ornaments in office, even the date of negotiation, which is to keep them are lucky in business. Besides business, these preternatural ideas and activities such as, fortune-telling, astrology, in a large sense, have been planted in our daily life and all of us are affected by them. For example, we are never willing to break a mirror into pieces, we will never date our friends to have a supper in the evening of the thirteenth day of the month, and we will absolutely not buy a black cat as our pets, because we have been affected by the custom and consider that all of this will bring doom to us. Although you may say that it is not true and unscientific, it unavoidably influences our thoughts and behaviors.

Actually, for nonmainstream, we cannot definite this area just depend on the criteria of scientific. In contrast, it is no denying that supernatural activities can help people to deal with some problems. For example, in ancient time, before a war, the augur in the army will predict what time is the best chance for winning the war through observing stars. Some people maybe think that is no relationship between the date and the victory. However, the soldiers will be braver, and fight with the high morale, for they have been heartened by augur. Thus, they are more possible to win in the war.

Admittedly, we admit that the effect of the nonmainstream is limited in aspect of society development, and in some time, a bad prediction may depress a people, even interfere with his\her success. However, we cannot explain every problem definitely only by mainstream science. We still need nonmainstream to deal with some problems that science cannot handle. Furthermore, science is evolutive ceaselessly and changing endlessly, as Copernicus’ heliocentric theory, at the beginning, his theory was considered as a heresy by the Inquisition, but finally it was proved to be a truth. Similarly, theory, we cannot assure that these nonmainstream will be proved to be true and scientific in future.

In conclusion, in some certain aspects, the nonmainstream subjects play a vital and special role in human life. It can provide some unique help with us to keep internal balance some times.
