1>重大决定
   Admittedly, every thing exists for some reason, not to mention the non-mainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits. When confronting with dilemma or complex question to resolve, people often find that thinking over them carefully in traditional ways such as the logic may be not helpful. Someone in these cases will resort to astrology or fortune telling to resolve problems and to relive the regret and guilt caused by realizing the fact that our choices turn out to be poor ones.
   2>对不那挽回的过去的追忆，如后悔的事情，与故去的人通话，寻求psychological solace.
3.       但他们没有在社会中发挥重要作用，而且过多的发挥非主流，会带来很多负面的影响。
1>     对个人不好，On individual level, stubborn adherence to the irrational pursuit might lead to self deception, delusion, even intolerance. Since the non-mainstream inquiry is an exclusive system whose consequence and logic cannot be explained by science and technology, confronting with the suspicion from others, the ones fascinating the fortune telling and the like will consider the others as heretics or even enemy.
2>     对社会不好，
On the societal level，会阻止社会发展，和科技进步。
The cogent example is easy to find in the world. The holy war and terrorism, which are often caused by the religion conflict, both are the examples on the societal level.
4.       发挥主要作用的还是主流科学。且社会越发达，科技越进步，非主流的空间就越小。
In the past, they not only had the function like I have discussed above, but also were the authority of the society. The primitive people resort to the astrology, fortune telling and the like to make decision and to meet their psychological need since they are the only "reasonable" methods. Even in this situation, the science and technology still found their way to thrive, because the non-mainstream inquiry cannot meet human need sufficiently。
但是现在，人们更多的依赖于科技，这些非主流更多的更象一种文化，entertainment.

I agree with the assertion that non-mainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits are part of our life and makes (exerts) some positive influence on people's life because they can provide something that not addressed by mainstream science. However, I strongly disagree that such non-mainstream have never and will never play a vital role in society, furthermore, I believe the influence of non-mainstream will fade and yield more space to mainstream with the development of science and technology as well as the other aspects of our society.

Admittedly, every thing exists for some reason, not to mention the non-mainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits, which show their advantage in two aspects in current world. First, when confronting with dilemma or complex question to resolve, people often find that thinking over them carefully(删掉) in traditional ways such as logic perhaps will be not helpful, will resort to fortune-telling to help them make a decision. Mostly it is not sure the fortune-telling can present them a perfect solution, even give a ridiculous one, which can help people feel better. Second, Regret and pity or other feelings always trouble the people and put them in a hard time when some sad things happen to them, such as losing a close friend. People, feeling regret that there are still not of things have not talk with this friend, may seek help from the astrology(paranormal pursuits) to make a conversation with the friend who are now be supposed in so-called "other side". In such situation, the no-mainstream help people find a console in their heart （can provide people a psychological solace）and relieve the pressure or depression from some misfortune (them from anxiety and depression), thus exert relative positive influence.

However, stubborn adherence to the irrational pursuit of non-mainstream might lead to deception, delusion, even intolerance. On a individual level, since the non-mainstream inquiry is an exclusive system whose consequence and logic cannot be explained by science and technology, confronting with the suspicion from others ,the ones fascinating the fortune telling and the like will consider the others as heretics or even enemy. On a social level, the government or the authority, paying too much attention to the non-mainstream, will inflict on democracy, education and science development, and in turn harm the interests of all the member of society. And it is always dangerous for a society to be too crazy about non-mainstream. The holy war and terrorism which are often caused by the religion conflict both are typical examples.

Furthermore, non-mainstream areas have never and will never play a vital role in the society. More advanced the society develops, less space non-mainstream has. In the past, the authorities of primitive society like to resort to the astrology, fortune telling to make a big decision, which was regard as a holy and reasonable decision. Even in this situation, the science and technology still found their way to thrive, because the non-mainstream inquiry cannot meet the human requirement sufficiently. With the development in science and technology, people, finding more reasonable and systematic ways to explain the world and to help them live better, realized non-mainstream is not effective as they expect to be. Especially in the current increasing eventful world, mainstream science play a vital role in every aspects of society, while the non-mainstream is mostly regarded as parts of culture, even entertainment.

In sum, what plays a vital role in the society is mainstream science, instead of no-mainstream, which present people some positive help in some situations. And the non-mainstream will yield space to mainstream with the development of human society.
