What qualities should an effective leader possess? Or, what is the criterion of an effective leader? For this question, as the speaker asserts, the ethic and moral are indispensable qualities for a leader, I absolutely agree with the point. Furthermore, the ethic and moral are not only important for leader-self, but also have a significant meaning for the people and the country.

First of all, we should think about the question that why someone can be a leader? And what are the differences between the leader and the mass? The most obvious character between a leader and common people is that he\she should be more outstanding. At the aspect of moral and ethical, a leader should do better than demos for his\her position. In another word, higher moral and ethical is the basic requirement for a leader. From ancient to today, all the great leaders in the history are possessed a high ethical and moral. For example, George Washington, one of the greatest presidents in America history, when he was young, once he cut a cherry tree by axe; however, when his father asked who did it, he did not tell the lie, and admitted his mistake. Hence, his honest quality was well known for the whole world, which also played a vital role in his success.

Secondly, a leader possessing high ethic and moral will be more beneficial for the mass. A morality and ethical leader usually have a strong responsibility and the sense of justice, which will restrict him and encourage him to do more for the human interest. If a leader is out of advanced ethic and moral, he\she will be corrupted more easily, then, the benefit of the human will not be assured. A case in this point is that in 1960s, American president Nixon was forced to resign his president position for the case of "Water Gate", his dishonest behavior cheated the mass and impaired the right of human, and no one was willing to accept his administration for the human consider their benefit was threatened by his low morale and ethical.

Admittedly, we must accept the fact "to err is human". Too strict requirements and supervising are cruel and inhumane for the mentality of the human including the leader. We should give them some space and understanding for their mistakes. As we accept our own mistake sometimes, similarly, we have no right to require the leader with perfect standard. We elect the person with high ethic and moral as our leader, and consider him\her as our model and learn qualities from him\her just as we admire and learn from some people who are outstanding in other fields. Consequently, for a leader, he\she should try his\her best to improve his\her moral to match with his\her position; for the mass, the certain understanding and allowance is necessary and helpful for the development of the leader. A case in this point is Bill Clinton, his affair with Lewinsky shocked the whole world. However, he was forgiven by the demos of America, obviously, forgiving does not mean the mistake can be overlooked, in contrast, it means a chance, a chance for the repentance of the president. After all, the president Clinton contributes the high speed development to America.

In conclusion, the leadership of a leader is limited by the level of his\her ethic and morality. Whatever in any social aspects, a leader should aware of his\her responsibility and model effect, and restrict himself\herself strictly in morale factor, then, he\she will obtain more responsibility coming from the mass.
