Whether the greatness of individuals can be decided only by their off springs not their contemporaries? According to this statement, the speaker claims that only the fomer one can determine the founders' achievements, however, sometimes the contemporaries also play an important role in this judgment. Thus the speaker overstates the significance of the next generation and ignores the importance of contemporaries.

Admittedly, in some fields such as art and science, the greatness of the founders' work cannot be understood and accepted by people who live in the same period. Since the most great ideas are abscond normal people's capabilities, they are always too abstruse to understand. Or perhaps some genius' creative thoughts cannot be accepted by the old convention and attitudes. In art field, for example, as a expressionism master, Vincent's painting fully represent his passion, however, at his times, there were rare people could accept his Sunflower or other works. The similar examples are easy to be found in science field, such as Grag, the Italian atomists in 17th century, whose theory has been opposite by religions and scientists in his contemporary. Thus, in some areas, indeed some works or theory a long term to be admitted. However, in other fields, the greatness of individuals also needs to be determined by contemporaries.  It is necessary and desirable, and I would discuss from following aspects.

Firstly, as the development of modern society, people have much more knowledge and experience which can help them make a rational judgment. In ancient society, most people could not accept opportunities of education, and it limited their horizons.  Fortunately, in our society now, more and more people can get the higher education and establish relatively complete value system.

Secondly, in our democratic society, individuals have right to hold their own views and put it out to the pubic, whether authority agree it or not. Our society encourages people to be different.

In addition, modern society emphasize the efficiency, especially in business world, the greatness of individuals just be measured by the profits they created.
In a short term, the creap data can illustrate everything, including the capability and achievement of business leaders. For example, the fomer CEO of Microsoft Bill Gates, no one can deny his greatness, even he do not obtain the undergraduate degree.
