In the age of television, are reading books not as important as it once was? Can people learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books? The speaker claims so, for the reason that television provides lots of study opportunity to people nowadays. I agree insofar that television offer considerable occasions to us. However, in my view we still learn much from reading books and reading books, as a traditional way to us, will still provide a dependable way to various places of people.

One reason for my fundamental disagreement with the speaker is that reading books is an easy and effective way we ever used to, it has several advantages as followed. First of all, reading is an easy way to learn at anywhere, and it is easy to open a book at anytime. On the contrary, to learn through television needs many preparations. Could anyone watching television convenient during a trip? Second, reading is an active way of learn. We could begin our learning at any chapter of a book or skip several sections during the course of reading, so that we are learning what we want to know. The course of watching television is more passive. When watching TV, It is likely that people just watch what it shows. Last but not the least, reading provide us a room of imagination, that’s what really count. If we only study by watching television, we will loss our imagination and loss our creative at all.

Another reason why I essentially disagree with the speaker is that as a fundamental way to learn, books is the only way that many people could get. How could people learn as much as by watching TV as they can by books if there is even no television? For example, in my motherland, china, there are not televisions in schools and they depend on new books as a principal way to give them new knowledge. For those places are too indigent and have no finance to provide modern equipment for teaching. Not typical, there are many other places that children have no opportunity to use television to study all over the world.

Anyway, television becomes more and more popular. Used as a multiply media teaching tool, television revealed vivid scenes, which impress us far from reading. And in the most of modern cities, television is very common to the residents. They can get much different information by watching television. Have knowing that television have its advantages, people come to accept television as an important tools to study. And television, as a new method to spread information,  
Really come to be a substitute of books at many places.

In sum, reading books have many advantages which could not be replaced now. It will still play an important role in our study. Television, as a new way people learn knowledge, become more and more important and will take more vital missions after time.
