ARGUMENT2:The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres. "Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."

In this argument, the arguer recommends that homeowners in Deer haven Acres should adopt their own a set of restrictions on landscaping and house painting. To support this conclusion, the arguer point out that the restriction in Brookville make the average property triple in the past seven years. Naturally, it is not necessarily the case. As the following discussion shows, the author’s argument is not well supported by the evidence.
First of all, the author’s conclusions that restrictions would result in enhancing property values lack in evidence that restrictions in Deer haven Acres would obtain the same achievement as in Brookville. The author fails to take into account of the comparison between the two areas on other aspects in daily life. Traffic, function and the requirements of homeowners might help to bring about a different result. Then, the sevens in Brookville would change a lot, not only the exterior appearance.
Next, it is absurd that exterior appearance could help to enhance the property values. The exterior appearance would not be a sufficient condition. The information I’ve collected these years leads me to believe that the determinate factor is not just because the rows of houses were uniform in appearance. The factors not only include the appearance, but also the ratio of supply and demand, economic development, people’s income changes and dwelling level. So far as it goes, many factors are steadying, though the traffic infrastructure construction is instable. It may make the residents move away from the center. They would like to prefer the more convenient suburb. Accordingly, the perfection of traffic, shopping center and community service may attract more homebuyers.
Additionally, the argument ignores the factors--- the exterior appearance should meet the homebuyers’ demand. They would have more interested in the house with various changes. The uniform appearance might have a regular feel; nevertheless it is a little dreary. Such practice may kill the creativity. None of the homebuyers would like their offspring to live in such dreary environment.
In conclusion, the author’s assumption is not well supported. With the author’s evidence, we cannot accept that implementation of exterior appearance would enhance the property value. The people who live in Deer haven Acres will voice strong opposition, once the program is advanced. To make the argument more convincing, the arguer should absorb homeowners’ views in order to ensure them live happily.
