作业十七:
Argument141:The following appeared in a newsletter distributed at a recent political rally.
"Over the past year, the Consolidated Copper Company (CCC) has purchased over one million square miles of land in the tropical nation of West Fredonia. Mining copper on this land will inevitably result in pollution and environmental disaster, since West Fredonia is home to several endangered animal species. But such disaster can be prevented if consumers simply refuse to purchase products that are made with CCC's copper until the company abandons its mining plans."

1: The CCC may not pollute the environment.
2: The practical aspect of mesure.
3: The attitude of public, maybe they do not like to take the measures to resist the CCC’s products.
In this argument, the speaker’ statement that because Consolidated Copper Company will inevitably result in pollution and environmental disaster, we consumers can simply refuses to purchase products that are made with CCC's copper to prevent the environment disaster, while appealing in some respects,  is an unperfected and unreasonable to some extent. We could find some fallacies in the statement such as too arbitrary.

Consider first the claim that Consolidated Copper Company will inevitably result in pollution and environmental disaster after the Consolidated Copper Company (CCC) has purchased over one million square miles of land in the tropical nation of West Fredonia. In my point view, it is too presumptuous to speak out the statement with the word ‘inevitably’. The CCC can purchase over million square miles of land, so the company must be very big and rich equipped with a lot of profit. And maybe the company has already spent millions of dollars and poured numerous specialists to research on the environmental problem. After the foundation of CCC’s mining copper factory in the tropical nation of West Fredonia, it will protect the environment, in some extent, by avoiding the tendency that other small company with immature technology will make their factory here to mine copper which will pollute the environment such as dirtying the drinking water, harming the endangered animals. Therefore the CCC will not undermine the environment with its foundation here.

Consider next the claim we consumers can simply refuses to purchase products that are made with CCC's copper to prevent the environment disaster. I concede that resisting using the products made by one company for a long time can beat a company to bankrupt or change his company’s policy. But the problem is that the CCC just mine copper which is a raw material that can be take to make a lot of differing products, how can we distinguish the products made of  CCC’s copper and these ones made of copper from other companies. In a word, the method may be correct in theory but not practical at all because we lack of a criterion to differential the products made by CCC.

Even if the company did pollute the environment and we can prevent the environment disaster by refusing to buy the products, I still doubt the attitude about the populace. The copper is used so widely in society and in our daily life that we can hardy make a better life without the copper. So the public may be not pleasant to take this action even abandon this measure after a short time and the measure will end with a failure. And there is also a possibility that if we resist the products of CCC in West Fredonia, the company can export their products with a high profit and encouraging by this advantage of export, the CCC may mine more copper and give more stresses on local environment.

In sum, the claim that the CCC will inevitably result in pollution and environmental disaster is too presumptuous, and the effect of the measures took to protect the environment is unpersuasive, we can require the CCC to use high and more environmental technology to make a balance between economic profits and environment protecting.

第一句话句子不错,但显得有点太长,很难一下读完,建议拆成两句。将while appealing in some respects放在下句。While the statement appeals in some respects, we could find some fallacies in the statement such as too arbitrary.
