Certainly no one can argue that many, and perhaps most, extinct species became extinct naturally rather than due to human interference. After all, mankind’s length of time on earth, when compared to the age of the planet, is very small. But to say that there is no justification for society to make efforts to save an endangered species. Overestimates our own importance, minimizes the importance of a species and ignores the intricate balances that all species on earth contribute to in our environment.
During the past ages, it is our ignorance that accelerate many species’ extinct. Having recognized that the nature has it’s own rulers and will give us lessons sooner or later, we should do efforts to save endangered species in order to make up what we have destroyed before. Perhaps we human beings could not change the fate of one species, but we could make it company us longer by our efforts. It is our responsibility to destroy as little as possible while still assuring the survival of mankind. Only by doing so, we human beings could be harmonious to the nature.
To a certain extent, to save an endangered species means a great cost in money and jobs. But who could say it isn’t worth? For example, we make efforts on animals like Panda, tigers and etc, which seems do nothing good to us. In USA, the alligators even have attacked people. Perhaps we make much ado about nothing. Is it true? The facts are eliminating these species give us less diversity in the environment .could human live along on this planet? The answer is obvious not. Also humans can not determine the relative importance of any one species. The absolute importance of biodiversity is only just beginning to be understood. The extinction of a species today might lead to unimaginably negative consequences in the future.
Taking the absolute point of view, even the species like flies and mosquitoes, if it becomes extinct, we don’t know what effect what might have in the long term. Certainly flies aid in the decomposition of waste materials. Mosquitoes may be an important food source for other animals in the food chain that directly leads to food for humans. To break any link in food chains in the environment like this could lead to unimagined consequences. What we make efforts to save is not only endangered species, but also the balance of our planet. And it will benefit us in the end.
To sum up, as humans, we must realize that there are balances in the environment that don’t understand and that we must protect. To allow the extinction of any particular species could prove to be a fatal mistake to the long-term survival of mankind.
