Argument42:The following appeared in a proposal from the economic minister of the country of Paraterra.
"In order to strengthen its lagging economy, last year the government of the nearby country of Bellegea began an advertising campaign to promote ecologically sound tourism (ecotourism). This year the number of foreign visitors arriving at Bellegea's main airport doubled, and per capita income in Bellegea increased by ten percent. To provide more income for the population of Paraterra and also preserve the natural environment of our tiny country, we too should begin to promote ecotourism. To ensure that our advertising campaign is successful, we should hire the current director of Bellegea's National Tourism Office as a consultant for the campaign."
提纲:
1. Bellegea’s success in ecotourism is doubtful.
2. Whether we should take the same measure as B to improve our income and environment.
3. Whether we should hire the director of Bellegea's National Tourism Office.
In the argument, the speaker’s claim that they should promote ecotourism as Bellegea did to provide more income and preserve the natural environment for the population of Paraterra, while appearing in some respects, is an doubt contention. There are some flaws in its supporting evidence.
First, I doubt the Bellegea’s success in ecotourism, though the number of foreign visitors arriving at Bellegea's main airport doubled and per capita income in Bellegea increased by ten percent in this year. Because there are lots of facts to effect the result. Maybe the Bellegea's main airport doubled people come here owing to the melioration of its airport but it has nothing to do with the advertising campaign and the people in Bellegea's airport are not for the ecotourism but just for changing planes. There are also a possibility that the government’s policy lead to the growing of the per capita income in Bellegea. So the speaker should provide more information to enhance that the ecotourism is the key factor for Bellegea's growing income and doubled visitors at Bellegea's main airport.
Even if the above discussion is true, whether we should copy the method to develop our owe ecotourism is still suspicious. If we does have the advantage in tourism resource, in history culture and world-wide influence as Bellegea do, how can we waste our precious finances on advertising campaign to begin our ecotourism. So the arguer should make a more detail comparison about our merits and vice in ecotourism between Bellegea and ourselves to make his claim more reasonable.
Last, the efficiency of hiring the current director of Bellegea's National Tourism Office as a consultant for the campaign is still questionable. Whether the director of Bellegea's National Tourism Office is familiar with our ecotourism? Whether the director is wholehearted at our tourism program especial when our ecotourism in Paraterra compete with Bellegea’ for visitors?
These queries must figure out before making the decision to hire the director.
To sum up, the speaker’s claim is doubt in some respects. The arguer should provide more evidences that we do have the enough precious ecotourism to attract visitors and the director is familiar with our ecotourism to add the persuasion of his proposal.
