9. The following appeared in a memorandum from a dean at Omega University.

"Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented a new procedure that
encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their
professors. Since that time, Omega professors have begun to assign higher
grades in their classes, and overall student grade averages at Omega have
risen by thirty percent. Potential employers apparently believe the grades
at Omega are inflated; this would explain why Omega graduates have not
been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha
University. To enable its graduates to secure better jobs, Omega
University should now terminate student evaluation of professors
."

1 学生成绩提高不一定是教授为了讨好学生的原因.还有其他原因导致, 例如, 学生更加努力学习, 教材更加吸引学生,教材更加容易.

2 就业高低不一定由分数决定的.可能还跟其他原因有关,例如, 学校的专业就业前景是否有市场, 学校是否有名气等等.

The argument is well-present, but not thoroughly well-reasoned. By making a comparision of the University of Omege implementing a new procedure of evaluation teacher by students and therefore high overall student averages and decreased rate of getting good jobs, with the Alpha University which do not carry out such an procedure, with more successful rate of getting good jobs, the arguer points out that Omega University had better to terminate the evaluation of students to enable graduates to secure better jobs.

However, the arguer is failing to consider other possible alternatives to increasing overall student averages. Firstly, it is possible that students of Omega University is more hard working than before they did, therefore teachers give them higher grade to encourage them instead of gaining a high evaluation of students. Secondly, if the context of books which were used before were limited to rigid theory and were not popular with students, student would have no interest in learning them and get lower grade. Now the books have been changed for ones which are more practical and interesting, naturally, students are likely interested in learning them and therefore get higher grades. Therefore, it is unfair to conclude that higher overall student averages is inflated.

In the second place, the arguer is failing to consider the higher grades is the exclusive reasons why Omeage graduates have not been successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. For instance, if the main majors of Omage University are majors which are less required by employers such as history and languague, while main majors of Alpha University include  medicle and pharmacy, which are needed more in the society. In addition, the fame,  of Omage University is not as famous as the University of Alpha. Compared to the grades of students, employers are more likely to consider the fame of University as one reason to choose employees. Finally, it is likely that University of Omage neglected in providing newest information of employment for the students, which lead to them miss many chances to get good jobs. Therefore, it is unfair to contribute the unsuccessful finding job to the higher grades of students.

In sum, reasoning behind unsuccessful employment rate of Omage University limit to higher overall grades seems logical as presented above. However, before any decisions are made about termination student evaluation of professors, the arguer should evaluate all possible alternatives and causes for the unsuccessful employment rate.
