Television, unquestionably, occupies a large proportion of people's time nowadays. It provides another way of gaining information and knowledge. However, it is too hasty to draw the conclusion that reading books is not as important as it once was.
Television, which is plays an important role in mass communication, is more accurate, objective and vivid comparing with books. Information transferred through of television, known as audio-visual presentation, is different from traditional education methods. Take geographic education as an example, by watching the evolvement of the earth, we remember the characteristics of different eras easily. Besides, television conveys the temporal news in time. Tsunami triggered by Indonesian earthquake is a case in point. The tsunami attacked many countries in Southeast Asia and caused nearly 30million people killed, millions of victims in urgent need of assistance. It was the television that conveyed the images to us in the shortest time and people from all over the world actively donated. Without television, we could not assist the victims in time. 第一段论述了TV的特点,但是没有阐明这些特点和Issue题目之间的联系.建议不要这样先说一通再出现第2段。有跑题后被拉回来的感觉
Of the special features mentioned above, nevertheless, television cannot replace books in several respects. To begin with, book is an effective tool in expressing abstract concepts and formulas, while we cannot rely on television to get a comprehension of these ideas. For instance, the most important work of Jean-Jacques Rousseau named "The Social Contract" cannot be apprehended without perusing and pondering repeatedly. We could review and speculate when come across the abstruse theory when reading books; comparatively, television cannot express the concepts thoroughly and we have no time to delve when we are puzzled.
Secondly, books are superior to television in respect of information quantity. We cannot deny that television contains some unimportant information not intending for education. Whenever we turn on the television, many teleplays, cartoons, and advertisements greet us. We select information we need in the finite channels and little requisite information can be found. When it comes to books, on the contrary, we can filter information in a forest-like library or bookshop and many useful books can be found. Besides, strolling in a library is an enjoyable thing and you may dig out some books you have desired for a long time unexpectedly.
Finally, undoubtedly, books are more portable than television. Books have no wires and don’t require connecting to any electrical equipment. Consequently, we can read books whenever and wherever we intend. Maybe we all have the experience that reading books on buses or subways. While the programs of television, broadcasted in a scheduled time, cannot be viewed at our pleasure. Moreover, books have some other traits such as low cost, easily for packing away, and it provides an imaginary space for readers. The above mentioned merits make books irreplaceable.
In a word, television and books have their respective predominance. Television offers a visual, external, precise and intelligible view. By contraries, books provide an abstract, insight, general and integrated view. The most effective and efficient approach to get information is to make a balance between the two means.
我无法从上文推测出你这篇文章是要阐述平衡观点。因为第一段是一段客观叙述,只涉及TV,而后3段在比较TV和Book时,你都在强调Book好。因此,这个结尾段显得突兀。 |
