Issue185 "Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

I agree with the speaker on the basis that scandals focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. However, the speaker illogically generalized that this kind of attention can be useful in many aspects.

First of all, in some respects, especially on societal issues, scandals serve us a way to deal problems well by retrospect them deeply. Bribery cases aptly illustrate my opinion. By considering why these cases can not eliminate radically, we find humans can not get ride of greed, which comes from the human nature. Moreover, the chain of the official organizations itself might have problems, since that people can easily do such scandals. In fact, from a scandal, people may find out several solutions to solve problems by focus attention on some special and deep aspect.

However, I totally disagree with the speaker's assertion when it comes to the realm of art. After all, we should not evaluate artists beyond their creations. For instance, it's unfair to link one's personal scandals to the value of his or her works. We should not exclude an outstanding creation which made by a artist who is unreadable or irresponsible to his or her marital. Otherwise, care about scandals easily increases the prejudice. So, focus on these scandals is not a reasoning conduct.

Additionally, the excessively focus on scandals may bring more societal problems at the same time. Cynical people might complain about our modern society, while overlooking other reasonable sides. For example, the critical people may do not satisfy our politicians who have some personal scandals, and some of these people might do extreme things to revenge the society. Understandably, we want our politicians honest and integrity and without any disadvantage, but it seems difficult to find one that person since we are all mortal. Thus, excessively focus on scandals will surely affect the effective of our work, and take more societal problems such as crime and suicide.

To sum up, scandals create a special view to retrospect our society, by attention to this; we can establish our society better. However, the same can not to be said when it comes to the world of art. Focus on scandals offer the prejudice to artists and their creations. Moreover, we must have the measure to scrutiny the scandals which could paid our attention to, since greatly care to scandals will bring societal problems without any doubt.
