Argument 147 [AWER小组]
第一篇Argument, 乱七八糟的,请不要客气,狠拍吧!
题目:147The following appeared in an editorial in a business magazine.
"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this argument, the author concludes that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months. To support this conclusion, the author claims that the according to the survey which asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game, players prefer games with lifelike graphics, and Whirlwind has produced such games. In addition, the author reasons that Whirlwind has advertises the games with lifelike graphics to (?it seems can be deleted)the people 10 to 25 years old, who were thought to the age-group most likely to play video games. However, the argument is unconvincing for several critical flaws (as follows).
First, the author fails to point out the reason why the sales of the games declined in the past two years. Though the feature of lifelike graphics is the most significant factor that the player thought, it does not mean that the consumers will buy the (?it seems can be deleted too:loveliness: )such games. There are many other important factors linked to games, such as the story, the background, the character(characterstic) of the features, the settings, and so on. Without these aspects, the games are no more than pictures. It is just like water, even with beautiful colors, however, lack of fragrance as well as (I don't understand this point, may be you can use 'and'?)taste, it is no more than water (this centence could chang into another form).
Secondly, even though the games with vivid pictures could be best sellers, the group the advertisement directed is not consistent with the the objectives of the survey. The objectives of the survey is unknown. Maybe people asked in the survey are at the age group older than 25; or maybe the survey is directed to all age group, but most of people who are fond of lifelike pictures are not involved in the age group of 10 to 25. Even though the groups of the advertisement and the survey are consistent, another question is "Is the age group of 10 to 25 really most likely to play video games?" (another point is " at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games"really exist and precise?)As no investigation, no statistics shows, it is unconvincing to say they are the persons who like play video games most.
In sum, the conclusion reached in this argument is invalid. To make it logically acceptable, the author would have to demonstrate the reason of the decline of the sales. To solidify this argument, the author would have to present more information about the survey and the advertising campaign.
Except the survey ,the stastics ,the age of prople,I think you can write something more about maybe the different time of whirlwindhave couse the different sales is nomal;and the games always changing with different times, etc.
consider this is you first argument, you are excellent and absolutely good!
well done~~
