In this argument, the author concludes that hiring Discount Food Company will lead to improved employee’s satisfaction. To support this assertion, the author cites on the taste a sample lunch that Discount serves. However, the argument relies on a series of unsubstantiated assumptions which render it unconvincing as it stands.
In the first place, the author argues that the Good-taste company was the second most expensive caterer in the city and its prices have risen in each of the last three years. Nevertheless, without mention the price of the Discount Food. It is entirely possible that the Discount Food was the most expensive one, or perhaps the entire consuming price has risen in last several years. Without any statistics comparison between the two companies, we can’t make a decision that the Discount Food will be a better one.
In the second place, the author concludes that the Good-Taste company wasn’t good enough just because of last month three employees complained about it. However, just last month and three employees doesn’t make any sense. The three employees aren’t able to on behalf of the whole company’s. Maybe for their insatiable contentment or it is just happenchance. Perhaps a survey over this topic should be made before any conclusion arrived.
In the third place, the author mentioned that he taste a sample lunch of Discount Food and found it was delicious. Obviously, only once tastes can’t represent the whole meals that the company serves. It is possible that the majority of employees reject the food served by Discount Food. At the same time, delicious doesn’t equal nutrition which is of more importance in judging the food service. Perhaps the Discount Food pays more attention on the food’s taste without give any consideration on the nutrition.
    In sum up, the conclusion that hire Discount Food Company will lead to improved employee satisfaction is not well supported. To convince me that the Discount Food was really better than Good-Taste, the author must provide clear statistical evidence that the price of Good-Taste was in fact more expensive than Discount Food while they serves the same meals and the three employees can represents the whole company’s. To better evaluate the conclusion, I would need more information about how many of the employees will be satisfactory with the Discount Food’s meal’s taste.
