How do you think about the relationship of tradition and modernization? If this question occurs to you, what answer would you give according to your understanding? The speaker asserts,”Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them.” However, in my opinion, tradition and modernization can be compatible in some kinds of the living styles and customs, although they may be imcompatible in the high-tech domain.

Tradition refers to beliefs, values, customs, ways of life, crafts, etc., which are handed down from generation to generation in a society. The recordation of history tells us the main information of our ancestors, including their daily lives, beliefs, values, and so on. With the development of the society, some movement happened, while some elements held and continued from ancient days to morden times. That is what we call tradition.

Modernization means the process of urbanization, industrialization and democratization, or in a large sense, westernization. The improvement of technology results in industrialization, urbanization and convenience for daily lives. Modernization is built by countless people from generation to generation in a society. With the lasting endeavor of their hard-working and wisdom, the morden world comes more and more nearly to us.

Once tradition and modernization meet together, something substle would take place. The true tells us that the process in which traditional society turned into modern society is slowly and gradually. Ancient culture in long history seems to be incompatible with highly developed modernization. Which one would human beings choose between new and old? In fact, human beings are making their mind all the time. Can’t you see people using high-tech communication skill instead of writing letters in the traditional way. Can’t you see people prefer to live in the tall buildings rather than the simple and crude bothies. Can’t you see people enjoying the convenience by modern vehicles comparing to by original ways. People are willing to accept the new fashions. At the same time, many traditional wisdoms are still relevant and can inspire us to search for solutions to presents problems. Some primitive proverbs are still prevalent nowadays. Many people will treat them as motoes and used them to regulate their behaviors and mentality. No one could defy that although living in the modern society, we could not help ourselves to get in tech with the tradition in our daily lives.

In sum, how should the tradition and modernization be a balance? The correct way to modernize a culture is to transform or reform its tradition rather than to uproot its tradition. Keep down what are applicable and discard others. The society made progress duing to the course. During the time elapsing, modern would become tradition and they would find a relationship which is the best suitable place for them.
