Argument 65  The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.

"For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference for domestic cheeses among its subscribers. Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."

In this argument the author concludes that the stores in this company should  concentrate on the sales of the domestic cheese rather than stock or sell the varieties of import ones. The conclusion is based on that ,in the last year , the cheese best sold in the newest shops  were all from Wisconsin. In addition, the arguer asserts that a survey produced by magazine “Cheeses of the World”  demostrated that the preferance of the domestic cheeses  was increasing . However, the statement alone does not constitute a logical argument in favor of its conclusion and fails to provide compelling support making this argument sound.
First problem with the argument is that the good sales of the newest stores in the last year do not mean  the domestic cheeses are always sold well in all of the shops in this company. And also ,the nunbers of the kinds of the well-sold cheeses is limited .To suppose that the rate of these five kinds of cheeses in the newest stores is very little , focusing only on the dometisc cheeses will be dangerous to the profits of the company.
Another problem with the argument is that  the speaker ignored to indicate the justice  and  authority of the magazine “Cheeses of the World” by details. If the magazine is not as famouse as its name sounds ,or even it had made some survey to cheat the reader or the coopertions , this survey mentioned in the assertion in the topic also could not be a convincing evidence that the stores should sell the domestic cheeses increasingly.
Finally, the argument fails to prove that the productiveness of the domestic cheeses are more than the import ones .Maybe  the frofits on the abroad cheeses are more than the ones made in the US,although the amounts of the sold import cheeses are less .
In sum, since the author commits the above mentioned logical mistakes and fails to consider the whole situation comprehensively, this argument is not convincing as it stands. To make it logically acceptable, the author would have to show that the  lasting salability of the domestic cheeses. Additionally, the author must provide evidence of the internal cheeses’ avarage and the total profits are better than the abroad ones. Only with more convincing evidence could this argument become more than just an emotional appeal.
