TOPIC: ISSUE4 - "No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."
WORDS: 453          TIME: 00:44:22          DATE: 2008-02-17 20:30:44

Conclusion in the passage from the speaker is that any study needs the outsiders' knowledge and experience to advance significantly. I totally agree with this assertion because of some obvious reasons, such as the relationship of some fields and the cooperation of different majors.

Firstly, in the Mendel' age--17th century--science does not separated into details as completely as now, that is why some majors have relation with each other coherently. At that time, one scientist did not have his own exact major like now, he might be a mathematics and biologist and secologist, and one of the greatest invention---the wave of light, at that time nobody believe the light could move like the water, wave by wave, even some philosophy’s had result this possibility. Meanwhile, one mathematics, Parson made fun of this theory that sounded like a dream, and he told in mathematics way there must be a hole in the middle if this theory was true. Fortunately, some researchers found that amazing hole in the middle and proved the great theory. Attributing to mathematics, this classical physiology theory could be recognized by the public, because the truth would destroy the classical theory.

Moreover, as the society developing, one simple field could hardly solve all the problems which the scientists would meet. A better way to deal with the trouble is cooperate with outsiders, who might pass that way easy where you confused for a long time. For instance literary critics borrow new ideas formulated by philosophers to further their studies. A striking instance to illustrate this conclusion is that a new study biochemistry, when biology and chemistry met. In the developing society, cutting-edge appears that it is necessary. Since the world is one seamless net because the world around us presents a seamless web of physical and anthropogenic forces, which interact in ways that can be understood only in the context of a variety of disciplines.

So, research might be worked out in only one field in a short term--which may be one or two decades--however, the invention and exploration would be limited by the distinct study, if one team refuse to ask for outsiders' help. Without linguists, painters and geographers, histories could not learn what was the culture hundreds years ago just by some stones and words on the wall; without chemists and biologists, only one team of genetists, even who are the most famous in the world, could not conclude what is the progress in human being's body just by the major knowledge in their field.

In sum, even the science and sociology could develop themselves in a short time—one or two decades or longer, but which must be limited by the knowledge exploration.
