Whether is reading books not as important as it once was, because the advent of the television, as the speaker stands? I concede that the television give us a vivid and updating avenue to percept and get the information. Otherwise, I disagree with the speaker that the books tend to substitute of TV.

Admittedly, in the technically rapid development of the society, television is increasing playing vital in our life, as a role of learning. As a result of its vivid and interesting visual impact, we prefer turning on the TV day by day. For supporting examples, one look no further than cartoon play. Cartoon is one of most popular form which never fails to fascinate children, even adult. But in its early time, it only reveal to people by books that composed with incontinuity colorful pictures. The characters in the cartoon would be not likely to vivid express, so that a traditional duty of their parents is to telling the story. This educational way undeniable at that expense of parents’ time to working and rest Another apt illustration is the procession of making a handicraft. Publishers attempt to explain the procession clearly, thus they adapt a myriad of graphic pictures to do so. Unfortunately, besides the confusion of people, these pictures have served to useless of the interpretation.

Moreover, for the actual and updating information, television also plays an significant place. A compelling example of the President Election can help us to convince this contention. We remembered the excellent speech of the would-be leader, his or her expression and eloquence impressed on our mind. How did it happen? The TV would be inevitably take account for this consequence. By TV show, we are directly influenced by those speakers and than make a choice. It is hard to image that a election informs public by publishing books. After each citizenry reading, if it is realistic, the plan and strategies that a would-be leader promised is behind the times. When it goes worse, this measure will threaten country’s stability.

However, aside from the merit of television, the shortcoming of it cannot be ignored. In a society composed by different interests group, the media cannot be neutral; it must speak for certain interest of its advocator. No doubt that everyone is withstanding interruption of advertisement. When we are watching a wonderful situation comedy, a untimely ad is suddenly flipping and arouse our comfortless sense. We complain of those overflowing ad, but turn to be fertile. Furthermore, in respect of passive effect of television, the children eventual suffer as victim. As choosing programs, children who lacking self-control or cognitive ability are more likely to be affected by some violent plays The worst thing is that they imitate the violent scenario, leading to harm their classmates and deface community property and the like. We are worried about the social future.

Finally, book, traditional learning way, possesses some functions, which manifest themselves in education and further in social culture future. By reading, our imaginary thinking turns to be proved. Some attracted novels support this view. We can precept the inner world of novel heroes by writers’ brilliant words. When reading Shakespeare’s masterpiece Romeo and Juliet, we fancy they cherish love and incompetence of it. These intricate psychological activities reveal apparently and actually to readers. And if we consider social culture future, we can find bigger bonus of books. The offspring should learn the history, unquestionably books is responsibility of this task. To establish a sound evidence, the library is the ample prove. However, compared with books, television only present but not flashing.

To sum up, in the age of television, people has less time to read books, since to some degree television is convenient and effective. But, we cannot ignore the function of book, which exactly plays a vital role in readers’ imagination and in preserving national culture.
