Should the study of history places much emphasis on individuals than groups? The speaker claims so for the reason that most significant events and trends in history were made possible by group of people not by the famous few. However, in my opinion, I disagree with the speaker's conclusion for what the reasons blow.
One reason for my fundamental disagree the speaker is that most significant events were impelled by the famous people. History events inform us the key individual is always the leader or famous people who provide the necessary impetus and initial spark for what always be a group effect. For example, Martin Luther King was a famous leader in the Campaign of Civil Rights for the Black in the United States. If not he play a important role in the events, then the Africa American people cannot solidify together and make a great success for the civil right .No one can deny the importance of leader role of Martin Luther King in the history.
Another reason why I essentially disagree with the speaker is that the famous people in a certain period usually represent the characteristic of certain world. Researching the famous people can learn how the events develop and what the major people consider. For instance, Lincoln who led the Union during the Civil War and emancipated slaves in the South .Lincoln had a typical characteristic of North that is pursing a emancipation of the slaves and equal right for each person. By studying Lincoln, the historian can truly understand the diversity between the North and South in the United Stated.
However, a famous Individual cannot impel an event without the support of the group. Chairman Mao, who was the great leader of Communist Party, lead Chinese people combat against the military of Kuomintang in the people war of liberation. As the Chairman Mao once said (and I paraphrase):"If the army of Communist Party and I did not get a great help of many poor people, we would not have an enough supply of provision and impossibly won over this war." It is true that in the history of world every eminent leader truly cannot leave group people.
In the conclusion, there is always a famous individual appearing in a significant event. Without the lead and initiation of the famous individual, people are always at a loss and cannot become an enormous power to expel the development of the event. Nevertheless, a great famous individual in the history should rely on the support of group of people to play a more vital role in the every significant event.
