Could a global university, supported by all nations, function as an elixir to solve the most persistent social problems in the world of our time? As to this question, there are some people who adorn academia and deem universities as the cradle of the novel thoughts and scientific solutions in present day. However, even experts and researchers in campuses should acknowledge that there are certain issues in reality that are out of the power of science and technologies which could be created in universities.
Notwithstanding the limitations(什么limitation?) to a global university, no one can deny that this is a wonderful idea in terms national communications which could enhance understanding and even friendship among different cultures and ethnics. As what happens in the internationalized campus today, oversea students bring with them precious information about their homelands while they are seeking for educations in other countries. The novel(这里用这个词不合适吧) cultures are always appealing to local students as well as residents, oversea conventions could be shared and spreaded, and naturally it becomes much easier for the local to take a deeper insight into phenomena in different cultures.(这里用这个例子针对性不强,虽然本段想要说明不同文化的交流,但是说留学生带去文化还不如直接说一个具体事件比如课堂seminar来促进文化碰撞) Without the time spending on pray and talks in churches, it is impossible for people with no religion to understand why the Americans or Europeans enjoy their religious life so much. Unless students in developed countries heard about their classmates talking about rural situations in their undeveloped homeland, it is hard to imagine the original way of life people lead there.( 这两句放在这里为论点帮助不大)As a matter of fact, the Grameen Bank, which saved numerous people from severe poverty and won Economic Noble Prize, have been created by Doctor Yunus after his oversea programs.这一段例子还是应该举那些更有针对性的.针对不同文化交流可促进理解这一分论点的.
While highly assess the value of international communication in universities, we should not fall into the myth of an almighty global university, which can be misleading and conceal the true curses of many social issues. Admittedly this kind of universities could promote communication regardless of the national borders, yet lack of communication is not the only source of the challenges we meet today. Take the international terrorism for instance, is it practical to eliminate it simply through the researches and talks in a global university? Apparently aside from discussions about the roots and theoretical solutions, negotiations across countries and actual army activities, which certainly could not be achieved by the university, are indispensable. Without them, any blue pictures(blue prints?) constituted in our international university are no more than a pack of unrealistic dreams.例证做的很好.
Moreover, we should also take into account of the wildly existed diversities between different nations. Even if a solution is sorted out and proved to be effective in some countries, can all the other countries employ it without reservations? The answer is probably not if only we take a look into what happened to the so-called Washington Consensus. In the 1970's, the economic success accomplished by US and some other western countries resulted in the optimal altitude towards economic development, and even economists asserted that as long as an developing countries follow the steps of the US, they could eventually be in the team of wealthy countries. Harboring this belief, many governments of third world countries followed this prescription. And eventually their dream of wealth and modernization fell into pieces in the financial crisis which prevailed the global. The lesson of their miserable experience is that we should recognize the conditions for a country could be extreme different from others, so a global university still has to work on individual country to solve its problems, which is impossible for one university and can only be achieved by the country itself.其实这个例子我觉得有些牵强吧..虽然也说的过去..但是感觉也还是不那么切点..分析只提出了问题没有指出原因,为什么要每个国家自己来实践?为什么照搬别国的经验不行?而且关于全球大学,我的理解是它研究出来解决办法却并没有规定大家都要这么办.
In conclusion, although the idea of elites from every corner of the world gathering together to solve some issues requiring devotion from every country is beneficial for us, it is important to note that other aspects of a global country may not be so ideal, or even inefficient for the progress of the world as a whole, yet still constituted by respective regions. Therefore, to properly handle with the complicated issues, we need to do much more than just establish a global university.
