The speaker claims that reading books is not as important as it once was for the reason that by watching television, people can learn as much as by reading books. In some sense, I disagree with the speaker's claims because both television and reading is important to learning.

Admittedly, with regard to the appealing traits and easygoing nature, television can help a lot in learning. Through the screen of television, human people can learn more accurate and convincing making facsimile of original works. Consider the football world cup in France, it is possible for people to stay in the home to appreciate the accurate and wonderful football games; people have a chance that learn what happened in the France in time. Or consider the 9.11 event, through the television, people from other nations immediately learn the horrible terrorist attack happened in United States and truly learn the danger of the terrorism. It is no doubt that due to the television, people who want to know the events, news, and such great things would be not dissociated with the global.

Nevertheless, the reading books also play an equally important role which television can not replace in learning. Reading books is an active process, where we can make choice of what, when and to which extent we want to learn. Because of the portable trait of books, when going to school in a bus, people can learn knowledge from reading books which contain the thought of writer. Furthermore, there are countless masterpieces about literature, philosophy, psychology and mathematics preserved in the current world. Only through reading book, can human people learn the pith of these masterpieces. Due to the convenience and thought of reading books, no one can deny the importance of reading books in learning.

Finally but not least, when it comes to the efficiency of learning, it is justifiable and wise to use both television and books in the process of learning. There is no more better illusion than the teaching style of my university, when studying the work of "Romeo and Juliet" written by the famous writer William Shakespeare, the literature teachers let student firstly enjoy the movie of "Romeo and Juliet" through the television. The vivid pictures incite the students an immense interest that students truly want to deeply learn the story of the "Romeo and Juliet". And reading the books of "Romeo and Juliet", students increasingly were learning the history of the seventeenth century English writing style of Shakespeare and the genuine meanings of love between Romeo and Juliet. From this case, we can find both television and reading books is equally important to the learning.

In conclusion, if not the television, human people can not immediately learn what the world was happening. If not the reading books, human people can not conveniently learn at will and also not learn the pith of the works of famous artists. It is necessary for us to combine the television with reading books in the process of learning so that we can learn much more than our ancestors.
