Should we believe looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present, as the author alleges? The author claim so, for the reason that he or she thinks so much is new and complex. In a sense, I tend to concede that since the place of technology in modern societies continually rises, our daily life becomes new and complex. However, I do not completely side with this statement because the author claims the view by overlooking the crucial rule of another issue and unfairly give them a second priority. In may point of view, foretime is valuable，important and helpful for us to understand today or future.

To begin with, learning about human achievement of the past provides inspiration. The great Mathematician and physicist—Newton, told us “if I seen further it is by standing upon the shoulder of giants”. Even though he is author of Principia(1687), one of the seminal work of modern science; laid the information of calculus; expanded human understanding of color and light; formulated three fundamental laws of mechanics; lead to the law of gravitation, his success also based on the past human achievement.
By the three fundamental laws of mechanics of Newton we can account acceleration of the rockets for successful blast-off. In short, learning about grand accomplishment of the past can help us get through the daily life, whatever things, by emboldening and lifting our spirits.

Secondly, mistakes of the past can teach us as society how to avoid repeating those mistakes. To illustrate this point clearly, we can see a disastrous mistake as fellow. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome—SARS—is a new kind of epidemic aliments and many lives pass away. If Chinese government can take action to control the development of this disease in time, hundreds of people will survive. There are various diseases which endanger our life potentially the same as extremes of human behavior do to the society. With the purpose of keeping healthy, people always take the vaccines which can do the precautions against aliments, for if people have taken the vaccines, they have the immunization as to be immune to some kinds of ailments. So people learn that: prevention is better than cure. For this reason, the stability of society depends on prevention not the responses.

In addition, studying human history can also help us understand and appreciate the morals, values, and ideals of past cultures. A heightened awareness of cultural evolution, in turn, helps us formulate informed and reflective values and ideals for ourselves. Based on these values and ideals, students can determine their authentic life path as well as how they should allot their time and interact with others on a day-to-day basis.
To sum up, I fundamentally disagree with the conclusion that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present. In fact, looking back for an understanding of the past directly contribute to the development of society. Moreover, the past can teach us many truths.
