TOPIC: ARGUMENT200 - Statistics collected from dentists indicate that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. This evidence suggests that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Thus, dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients.

提纲:1,质疑men faint是因为distressed
2,质疑advertisement‘s target only male

This is one-sided argument. The author claims that three times more men than women faint for the former are distressed during having dental work, hence, he suggests  the dentists to advertise to target the male consumer and emphasis on anesthetic techniques and sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients. However, there are still many hidden factors the author has overlooked or chosen to ignore.

To begin with, whether men are prone to be distressed by receiving dental work stays dubious. Is it true that faintness of men results from distressing? The answer would be probably no for the reason that most men suffer from  more serious dental problems than women. Perhaps, men do not care their apparent as much as women. While women attend dentist clinic frequently, men do not go there until severe dental pain. As a result, men with large dental problems faint during curing presumably for physical response rather than for mental response. In this case, anesthetic techniques turn out to be useless, while sophisticated dental techniques play more significant roles.  More attentions on anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of clinic staff, fail to enable to reduce the worry of male consumers.

As for women , which also are the important part of dentist consumption, the author takes none of this group into consideration. Regarding searching beauty as female nature, women might be take dental care more frequently, which forms a great number of commercial benefits for the dentist clinic. However, emphasis on anesthetic techniques and sensitivity of their staff doesn't not only attract male patients, but interest potential female consumers. It would be the advance technology of dental beauty and the quality of dental check that render women attraction.

Two methods and one target used in dentist advertisement could not be available for increasing more dental consumers. The author points no evidences showing that men really care anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff when they suffer from serious dental problems but distressed emotions. Moreover, no accounts for female patients as the same important consumers for dental curing, would greatly lose another large existing and potential market.
