This editorial concludes that the decrease in arctic deer populations is owing to deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea. To support this conclusion the editorial cites such a fact that arctic deer search for food by moving over ice from island to island and the places which arctic deer lives in are confined to the areas warm enough to maintain the plants on which they feed, and cold enough to allow the deer to travel over the ice covered the sea separating the islands during some of year. At the same time, the editorial also notes the fact that recent global warming trends have caused the sea ice to melt. The editorial is problematic in several respects, rendering the argument unconvincing as it stands.
To begin with, the author unfairly assumes that arctic deer populations are reducing only depending on reports from local hunters. Difficultly indicating that Canada's arctic region reflect this general tendency(总觉得这句话有些别扭,改成这样是不是好一些:the general tendency in the whole Canada’s arctic region), it is entirely possible that the arctic deer populations of other areas of Canada's arctic region are not declining. For that matter, it is possible that the arctic deer populations are increasing in other region, in which case the author's claim that arctic deer populations are declining would more flagrantly fly in the face of the true result. Lacking evidence of a sufficiently clear sample, the author can not justifiably rely on the report to draw any conclusion whatsoever.(觉得这段话有些罗嗦,同一个意思说了3遍)
Even assuming the fact that the arctic deer populations are declining is true, the author overlooks the possibility that the decline of the arctic deer population has nothing to do with their being unable to get across the frozen sea. It is perhaps that arctic deer may find enough foods in their habitat even if they can not move from island to island. Without accounting for this possibility the author cannot convincingly conclude that the decline in arctic deer populations is the result of deer being unable to migrate from island to island.
The author also overlooks the possibility that one or more factors other than food shortage were instead responsible for the decline of arctic deer populations. For instance, perhaps the increasing number of the natural enemy such as polar bear or human excessive hunting was the actual reason for the decline. If so, this fact would seriously weaken the author's claim that the deer populations' decline is attributable to deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea.
Finally, the author asserts that the decline of arctic deer populations is relevant to global warming, because the latter cause the sea ice to melt. However, the author has no clear and accurate evidences to indicate how the climate of the arctic region changes, and whether ice between islands where arctic deer lives has really melt. In short, the author can not convince me that global warming causes arctic deer population to decline.
In sum, the editorial is indefensible as it stands. To better evaluate the reliability of the report upon which the author' conclusion depends, i would need more comprehensive and clear information that arctic deer populations are declining, which can be more reliable if obtained from many professional experts(experts对应后面hunters), not only local hunters.(将最后一句提前和此句合并,因为都是主体段落第一段的内容). The author must also provide clear evidence that arctic deer populations are declining because of deer being unable to migrate across the frozen sea, rather than some other factors. 思路清晰,语言流畅,有个别小的语法错误。如果有评判不当的地方,还请见谅。
