The speaker asserts that social customs and ethics are not only influenced but also determined by technologies. I agree insofar that technologies impact changes of our life from many respects; however, it is not the direct inducement of such changes.

I agree that on which stage the technologies are is significant factor influencing our lifestyle. A great many examples are involved in the improvement of our standard of living and comfort level the technological changes brought out. For instance, the reason why we are used to eating cooked meat rather than raw is because human found fire and fired food is more delicious. Else, we can forsake the old methods of counting such as using sticks and stones is the contribution of invention and development of computers which can free up many our time by performing competitive and complicated tasks. Our messages are delivered in seconds not during marathon after internet provides us the convenience. From the countless examples, we are informed that technological innovations are necessary inducements of new form of customs.

Alike, our ethical minds have been violated and confused all the time during the progress of technology. One needs look no further than the great impact of birth of clone technology. The ewe gives birth to dolly and along with many ethical problems such as whether dolly has a mother or father for the reason that she is just a copy owning the totally same organ and tissue with named father. What's more, many people oppose to apply such technology to human being for the reason that a clone man is besides the definition of social and no fit status can be nominated to him/her. Nevertheless, there are still many technologies being accepted by more and more people such as

However, I disagree with the second prong of the statement that social customs and ethics are finally decided by the technologies. Actually, people will change customs and ethics only because the new customs and ethics can do lots of good to most people. It's the nature feelings of humankind that determine social customs and ethics. That is also why people from different districts can remain part of distinct customs and ethics when they are all in the same standard of technology. Custom is determined by the habit of people not the technology, such as sashimi is still a staple dish in Japan because people there like its taste since the fire was not found. Ethics is determined by people’s belief, an ample example is that admission of abortion in China comes with eschewing the form of that technology but because it don’t conflict with the belief of most Chinese.

In sum, the technologies have great impact on the change of social costumes and ethics because they change people’s mind. For this reason, it is human mind not technologies determine social costumes and ethics.
