"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

It is necessary for all faculty to work outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, as the speaker maintains? I concede that it is desirable and necessary for professor to work outside in order to keep breast with the industrial advancement and keep conscious with cutting-edge social issues. However, excessive emphasis on outside work do harms to their academic studies.

To begin with, my main point of agreement with the speaker has to do with the fact that it is necessary and desirable for faculties in the area of physical science to be active in industry realm in order to keep pace with its progress. To better illustrate this point, here is an instance that is convincing. It is reasonable and rational for a professors who focus on chemical engineering to spend some time in the industrial realm relevant to the course he teaches. In the process, the professor can not only adjust their research directions keep pace with the industrial advancement, but can obtain lots of information concerning the future development in that field. Consequently, their students may acquire more useful knowledge and practical advice on care planning, which will put them in a favorable position in job markets when they step into society after their graduation. This demonstrates that industrial advancement not only work as an indicator to academic studies, but also serves as an guidance to job markets.

Further, another point of my agreement with the speaker has to do with the fact that the same thing comes to the sociology science. To illustrate this point, here is an convincing example concerning professor who teach law. Professors’ experience in that field serve a good purpose of searching controversial issues, which would lead the students to reassess the relevance and fairness of current law and this not only has its value on academic study but will make sense in practical world, which will help to facilitate the development of law system in modern society, and consequently benefit the society as a whole. Understandably, the speaker makes sense in sociology world.

Admittedly, the speaker has the forgoing merits, however, it poses certain problem that it overlook the potential negative impact of placing excessive emphasis on outside work. As known to all very coin has two sides, and under some circumstance outside work will turn to an obstacle to academic studies. To aptly illustrate this point here is an example that can support my idea, it is hard to image a professor placing enough energy and time on his next day academic studies and course he teaches after a day work in factories or different institutions. Had all professor were forced to work outside, no significant academic achievement would came out. In view of this unfavorable influence, professor should not be forced to work outside.

Accordingly, the issue, whether it is necessary for faculties to work outside should not be considered indiscriminately. It is true that appropriate experience will benefit professors’ academic studies. However, working outside would impede the progress of academic under some circumstance.

【反对好像论证不够深入,有点泛泛而谈】

【整体论证不错,特别是赞成观点有文理两个分支观点,只是反对观点略显薄弱】
