Education is always a hot topic no matter in past or now, but today we meet more challenge and requirement that never ever be considered. One issue is whether education should be designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. Most students would say yes, but I think it is not such a simple question. I suggest that education should meet the needs and interest of the majority students than each individual.
Traditional education is designed as a pattern of students receiving what teachers give them. Under this mode teachers' job is deliver the knowledge arranged by education system or governments; whether the information and knowledge can be absorbed and accepted is not the first concern of our teachers. The most disadvantageous aspect of this kind of education mode lie in it can meet the individual's need. Human beings are advanced creatures which determine the diversified requirements and interests. But most schools set their curricula not according the needs of students, which will strongly harm the positivity and enthusiasm of students. Depression, rejection, even rebellion could be witness as a longer counterproductive results. Einstein was proposed drop out of school because he cannot catch the regular step of the class schedule which leading he be thought as a retarded by teachers. However Einstein used his life achievement rebutting the teacher's ill-conclusion. The rigid stiff doctrinal dull inanimate class education can not bring Einstein as well as us vivid inspiration, which doomed to be challenged and reformed one day.
Students who received effective education can avoid absorbing and digesting knowledge passively, which make the education resource allocated optimally and student learn faster and more firmly. The ideal formation of education should be designed to meet the majority of students, which can stimulate students reaching to the largest extent of their potential. Consider a biology major student whose dream is to be a great painter like Monet, even the professor who got Nobel Prize in biology cannot teach him any skill in drawing picture. And this future painter can only bury his dream if his college doesn't open a art or painting curriculum. As far as I am concern, I learn much faster with more pleasure when I meet the subjects I am fond and spent more time and endeavor on the disciplines I am not interested in. Obviously, interest is the best teacher for guiding student to any achievement.
However, over-specified disciplines will narrow the ken of students, and bring some unexpected results in the latter study and career. The aim of education is to cultivate people, impart student knowledge as well as teach skills and abilities how to better survive in the society. Without fundamental instruction and basic knowledge students can easily lost themselves in the specified majors. That is why we set curricula like Literature, Arithmetic, Philosophy, Physics and Chemistry in primary school and middle school. These basic knowledge are the step stones for the deep study of other majors. The reason why they are so important and indispensable is that they teach us how to think, reason, analyze and how to exert basic skills and methods and apply the knowledge into the advanced research. The compulsory education of some basic disciplines and knowledge guarantee the necessary skills and abilities for the career survival and competition, no matter it is the interests of students or not; Interest and hobby cannot adapt themselves in the society.
What's more, the feasibility of Meeting every students' needs is questionable. Considering the limited education resources we have, meet every individuals' need is impossible. First, the amount of the total students is so large, we cannot find enough number of faculties to meet all the needs and interest of students, and if there are several student like weapon manufacturing or aircraft driving where can we find relevant teachers? It also bring out the second problem, large cost and financial supports for teaching space, equipments and facilities using for education, where can we resort for such extra donation? Finally, who will set the courses? The government or the teachers even the students themselves? The first two groups cannot acquaint themselves with what is the inner need of students. Even student cannot distinguish whether it is their real interest or just a instant favor, considering lots of students shift them hobbies frequently.
To sum up, Education that meets the individual needs and interests of students can be effective for the learning process. However, imperative fulfillment of some fundamental curricula is necessary for better adaptation in one's career and latter study. After all the aim of education is to train well-rounded person for society. Hence, our education should provide broad alternative subjects for the interest of students, but it has to be established on the precondition of some compulsory disciplines. Luckily, our colleges and universities already made some progress in subjects independent selecting and transferring.
