11"All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."
With the development of the society, countries connect with each other more and more closely. Any change in one country may shock the whole world. In view of this, an opportunity for mutual understanding and for cooperation among countries is highly needed now. So, in my opinion, to establish a global university which is able to provide this opportunity is valuable although the way to it might be very long and filled with difficulties.
To begin with, a global university can figure prominently in enhancing mutual understand, mutual credibility and mutual respect, thus helping to solve the conflicts among countries and attain the goal of peaceful development. In the first place, the culture difference serves as the biggest obstacles stand in the way to the final success, inhibiting countries' mutual understandings. To solve the culture obstacle, communication is indispensible. In the global university where students study together and live together, it is convenient for them to communicate with each other and learn about other nations' customs and culture. Only after culture obstacle is moved out will other cooperations and communications meaningful. Moreover, many issues on national interests are rooted in the absence of mutual credibility and respect. In an attempt to eliminate the number of wars and to develop peacefully, all nations should gather together to address each other's interest. So facing the economic trade inflicts between the developing countries and the developed ones, the most beneficial way is to enhance the understanding of each other’s interests and this is what the global university can provide.
In addition, it is the global university that provides opportunities for nations to cooperate with each other, help each other and develop together. In the academic realm, with the development of science, as comprehensive subjects are enjoying an increasing popularity and every country has its own advantages on certain areas, the cooperations between those countries will undoubtedly conduce to the birth of some remarkable academic fruits, therefore contributing to the whole human. In the economic realm, the 21st century has witnessed a boom of multinational corporation which accelerates the economy development and promotes the connection between nations. Therefore, any economy crisis in one area may influence the whole world. The financial crash of October 1987 and the Asia Economic Crisis in 1998 lend credence to the assertion that the world’s capital markets are more closely integrated than ever before. In the environment realm, concerted efforts are needed to protect our human's living circumstance and solve those problems we are facing which range from the ozone issue to the resource problem. In other areas such as crimes, drugs, and terrorism, the global university can also play an important role in the long run.
However, while the global university is significant, in an attempt to attain the goal, more efforts are supposed to be made for there are many troubles we may have to be confronted with. Firstly, instead of establishing such a global university, a host of nations might harness those funds to address some immediate problems in their countries such as food price problem, the medical problem and so forth. This is especially true in certain poor countries. Another, it is mostly likely that the global university might suffered from political interference which will undoubtedly bring detrimental effects on the development of the university.
To sum up, globalization is a general trend. Although a multitudes of obstacles stand on the way to the global university, in the long run we should exert our utmost to establish it as it can facilitate the mutual understanding and cooperation which is indispensible in the 21st century.
