Art is an abstract word, which means in the dictionary "the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects". In this definition, we may find that the primary character of art is the aesthetic value. However, art has so widely meaning that it contains the conception of hidden ideas and impulses of a society which mentioned in the issue topic.

The art can be called art only when it has aesthetic values, because it is the foundation of the other values. The arts cannot be appreciated if they are not even beautiful in the eyes of most people, who clearly want the arts that bring them comfortable rather than upset. When the arts are accepted by people, the other deliberated meanings would be understood with the appreciation. For example, the performance in the opening ceremony of 29th Olympic Game held in Beijing received many encomiums of the rich and sophisticated Chinese culture from the world. However, the great Chinese culture exists all the time and few foreigners wanted to understand it because the language differences. Only when that rich and sophisticated culture is expressed by a worldwide language--songs and dances, that rich and sophisticated culture is praised.

Under the aesthetic values, there are many other values that can be expressed from the arts. The hidden ideas is one of them. The authorities have so many powers in most part of the world during the long period that the residents' voice cannot be heard for the scare of the harm to the powerful authorities who can be receive severe punishment from. Take Nazi, the scariest regime, for example. In their sanguinary rule, hardly no one can say they did something wrong or that one would be executed. But the artists revealed their feelings deeply in their heart. In Picasso’s abstract painting of the bombed city, we may find what was actually in masses' mind. In this way, the painting transcended the art itself and became the avatar of the public voice.

Also, the arts can reveal impulses of a society. Everybody knows that Renaissance is the beginning of the recent history. With the help of it, people began to search a way to break the bondage of the religion and finally found the capitalism social form with more freedom to the masses. The arts can finish this great feat because its implicit and beautiful productions, which can be accepted by the authorities and incite the desire for free inside from the masses. Through the paintings of Leonardo Da Vince, we may find the perfect combination of science and arts, so the sacred religion is devalued and people's continuous thinking in scientific way become the mainstream gradually.

There are other values are provided under the arts' aesthetic value. Such as science fiction shows author's dream of a better days to come; love poem expresses the warm affection and love by their authors; Chinese brush drawing conveyed the beauty of our earth, and other values cannot be counted completely.

In conclusion, arts can give us so many values including the hidden ideas and impulses of a society which mentioned in the issue topic. We may use it properly to express our own feelings to the society to provide the beauty and the progress.

Examples provided for illustration of otherwise values or ideas of arts are quite apropos. However, I cannot completely consent with your idea that The arts cannot be appreciated if they are not even beautiful in the eyes of most people. Dance and melody of a song are basically the common expression in the world, no matter for their language difference.
Furthermore, in my point of view, it is quite difficult to separate hidden ideas and impulses. Sometimes, they look similar in certain extent.
