01/19/07: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most people often let others make decisions for them rather than make decisions by themselves. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Letting others make decisions for you or making decisions by yourself?  A variety answers will be given by different people, as for me, I prefer to make decisions by myself and in my opinion, most people make decisions by themselves.
One compelling reason to support my point is that most people understand their own self better than anyone else, such as what kind of life do they want to live, a fast-paced life or a leisure one, or where do they prefer to live in, a big city or small town.  Therefore the decisions that they make by themselves are the best ones in most cases.  For instance, one of my friends got a stable, well-paid job in our hometown, a small town in northeast China.  Most of her friends and relatives thought it was a good job and quite suit her.  However she quitted the job only a half year later and applied for master's course in a famous university in a foreign country because she knew herself does not like a stable job in a small town when she is young and has the ability to chase her dream, she wants to go abroad to broaden her horizon.  In sum, most people know themselves better than others, they know their characteristics and what is the right decisions for themselves.
An additional reason is that sometimes others cannot make decisions for you.  For example, who is the one that you want to marry and live with in the rest of your life?  Or the attitudes toward life: what will you do if you encounter a failure, try it again or give up?  Which kind of attitude in the face of serious diseases do you choose, a positive one or a negative one?  How do you handle depression, fighting to get out of it or surrendering to it?  As you can see, all these issues cannot be decided by others, people have to make decisions personally.
In conclusion, I agree that most people should make decisions by themselves for their sake and sometimes have to do that because nobody can live your life instead of you.
