In some high schools and universities. The student have group works, giving the members of a group the same grade(credit), do you think it can evaluate the students? (2008.1.13)
It is advocated by most of the universities that students should work in groups in order to cultivate their cooperation skills and teamwork spirit. Students in a team are always graded the same score for their performance. However, the score, in my point, could not evaluate the students effectively. I base my point on the following reasons.
To begin with, the scores given to the students can only be considered to be an evaluation of the whole team, however, could not reveal each team member’s real contribution (需要换词). Suppose a project which assign to a group of students. At first, all the students may try their very best to finds solutions. It is understandable that the excellent students may always find the right solution and therefore contribute more to the accomplishments of the project. However, when it comes to the time for grading, each team member gets the same score. Obviously, the students who contribute little to the project get a higher marks than they are supposed to have. It is undoubtedly a compelling example illustrating the inaccurateness of giving the same score to a team.
Furthermore, it will result in more inaccurate evaluate if continuing giving the same score to each team member. We can back to the example mentioned above. The excellent students who always help the team get higher scores may have a feeling of unfairness, and may work less harder because the score never reveal their predominance over the others. The same thing happened to the other students because they find that they can always get higher marks even without working in the team. All these actions may result in the inaccurateness evaluation for all the students. This is another compelling reason that grading the same scores could not evaluate the students effectively.
In sum, as discussed above, giving the same score to the students in the team makes no sense in evaluating the students. Efforts should be made by the school teacher’s to find a more reasonable way to grade scores.
