Personally,I definitely support the point that undetstanding ideas is of more significance than just learning facts.In colleges nowadays,plenty of students don't want to explore into a scientific issue any more.More and more students have the wrong thought that understanding ideas and concepts are too time-consuming so they just want to learn facts,then they think they have griped the subject.I just want to say it's totally wrong.
        First of all,for some subjects,the intent to open them is to discover the basic properties of our world,in another word,learning these subjects means that you always have to understand the concepts of them.You must have a deep understand of how objects acting,moving and so forth.For instance,when you learning physics,an old subject which requires us to totally know the concepts of it,if you just learn the facts,then at last all you get is nothing.
You can imagine that when newton was hit by a falling apple,if he didn't think about the basic concept behind this phenomena,he would not be a great scientist.
        Moreover,understanding ideas and concepts can help you to better understand the knowledge you learned.Sometimes it is hard for you to remember all the facts you get,for example,data,graph,table and so forth.But if you have grasped the ideas of them,then you need not try hard to remember so much boring numbers because you can just deduce them in exams and in work.
        Finally,it's the fundamental responsibility for our students to understand the ideas and concepts.Only if you command all the concepts then you could use all of them in your future work to produce products or to solve problems,otherwise when you encounter any problem,you just can't deal with them.For instance,if you major in electricity and don't understand the ideas and concepts,maybe you could operate a machine in your work,but once there is something wrong with your machine,you just can't fix it!
        Now you can see how important understand ing ideas is,so we should think more when we are learning knowledge and not just touch the surface.
