The speaker asserts that students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study instead of accepting them passively. I fundamentally agree with the proposition that we need questions and critics in out lives. A contrary position would lead to the stop of the society development. Nevertheless, I would caution that extending this view too board might risk undermining the harmonious environment.

It is obviously that questions and critics to the existed theories keep us in developing. Most of the greatest inventions and discoveries in the science history are based on disbelief to the old believes. For instance, theory of relativity, one of the most important discoveries in 20 century which lead us to a completely new view of the world, turns down the old Newton's mechanics which is the foundation of most of the scientific theories. If Einstein just accepted what he was taught and never ask a question about them, we may still in a wrong view of the world. Newton said he stands on the shoulders of giants, but the fact tell us that scientists not just stand on the old theories, but also break the old ones to move to a newer one which is much closer to the real existences.

However, with the development of the society, we cannot question everything in our lives, and instead, we must accepting most of what we are taught. In the high developed society, our lives are becoming more and more complex, and in order to catch up with the times we need to learn more knowledge which may be hundreds times of what our ancestors need to know. One person have no time and ability to understand things in all fields, thus can not question everything and find the answers. As a compromise, what students should do is learning to find what they should question and what they only need to accept. They may be required to question everything in their research field, but, at the same time, leave all other fields to others who are much more familiar.

Furthermore, overstate the importance of the skepticism to everything may only lead to breaking the social harmony and slow down the develop speed of the world. Some people don't believe what the government says and they just think they may have a better way to bring democracy to the citizens, then the enemies come out. They demonstrate against what they don't like in peace time, and if this keeps happening, the country may be brought to the battlefield in the worst condition. Moreover, students are always the unstable element in the society, which is just because they are used to questioning things. And if students cannot use this ability in the right way, they may become a strong force against the social frame and the government. So, skepticism should be limited in particular fields instead of questioning everything.

To sum up, though questions and critics are the most useful and efficient facilities for us to make progress, they should be made after deeply consideration and thinking. It call for a balance between bringing skepticism to particular fields and accepting things without so much disbelief in other fields to keep our society in fast growth.
