WORDS:583

--------------------------------------

OUTLINE
--------------------------------------

I agree with the speaker’s broad assertion that scandals can be useful no matter it is in politics, academic, or other areas. Thanks to its special attributes so that they play an important part in focusing our attention on problems by the ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. My points of contention with the speaker involve the aspects of academic in Biology in Korea and the most compelling scandal in USA, the
Watergate scandal, as discussed below.

On one hand, scandals in academic field can focus all the attention on a very problem so that it can be examined by all the people to check out whether it is appropriate. Furthermore, through that, the society will put emphasis on the around areas to make sure that there is no where have the similar scandals which will drive the area, including the related areas, to a better atmosphere. A case that can be presented to develop my point is the great stem-cell scandal in Korea. After determined that the development of stem cells from a cloned human embryo by Hwang Woo-suk and his team documented in a 2004 research paper published in Science was fraudulent by a panel at Seoul National University. Koreans are mourning the fall of their hero. Korea's scientists, however, take a different view. They are confident that long after the scandal is forgotten, Korea's biotech industry will have made up the ground it lost in the past few weeks, and more. While Hwang's sensational claims were drawing the attention of the world's media, behind the scenes researchers were making significant progress in other aspects of stem-cell research. "Dr. Hwang was not the only stem-cell scientist Korea had," says Dr. Oh Il Hoan, director of Catholic University Hospital's cell-research center in Seoul. "We still have the technology, manpower and infrastructure to lead global stem-cell research."

On the other hand, when it comes to political field, perhaps one of the most compelling scandals in USA's history is the Watergate scandal. The president Nixon was involved in this event and impeached by public for his behaviors concerning for himself rather than public’s interest and a whole judicial system.
However, when this scandal was published to the public and was shocked by the public, what rising in our mind is the arousal of flaws of our normal social system from a lateral facet. It is fairly clear that the Watergate scandal produces a far reaching effect on the USA’s politic field and presses even a whole world. This scandal can not be simply regarded but should be considered as a stimulus which can arouse public’s enthusiasm to focus on intricate politic system and consequently create a much more just politic atmosphere.

However, although I admit that scandals can be emphasized to focus our attention in certain areas, it is no denying the fact that among the scandals which are digged out by the press there are some made-up ones just to meet the public's appetites of curiosity and jealousness. Furthermore, most of the readers are just keep themselves outside and keep an eye on what is going on instead of doing something from the scandals to purify our society.

In sum, I would paraphrase the issue that scandals can be emphasized by the public media so that it has a better chance to be focused by the public. However, unless it is used to get some experiences and to impede our surrounding society, we can not say that it can be useful.

On (the) one hand, scandals in academic field can focus all the attention on a very problem so that it can be examined by all the people to check out whether it is appropriate. Furthermore, through that, the society will put emphasis on the around areas to make sure that there is no where have the similar scandals which will drive the area, including the related areas, to a better atmosphere. "Dr. Hwang was not the only stem-cell scientist Korea had," says Dr. Oh Il Hoan, director of Catholic University Hospital's cell-research center in Seoul. "We still have the technology, manpower and infrastructure to lead global stem-cell research."

The president Nixon was involved in this event and impeached by public for his behaviors concerning for himself rather than public’s interest and a whole judicial system.
However, when this scandal was published to the public and was shocked by the public(感觉不好), what rising in our mind is the arousal of flaws of our normal social system from a lateral facet. It is fairly clear that the Watergate scandal produces a far reaching effect on the USA’s politic field and presses even a whole world. (应该用过去时吧)This scandal can not be simply regarded but should be considered as a stimulus which can arouse public’s enthusiasm to focus on intricate politic system and consequently create a much more just politic atmosphere.

I agree with the speaker’s broad assertion that scandals can be useful no matter it is(可去掉) in politics, academic, or other areas. Thanks to its(指代谁?前面的scandal是复数形式) special attributes so that they play an important part in focusing our attention on problems by the ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. My points of contention with the speaker involve the aspects of academic in Biology in Korea and the most compelling scandal in USA, the Watergate scandal, as discussed below.

On one hand, scandals in academic field can focus all the attention on a very problem so that it(it指代不明,注意一下统一单复数) can be examined by all the people to check out whether it is appropriate. Furthermore, through that, the society will put emphasis on the around areas to make sure that there is no where have the similar scandals which will drive the area, including the related areas, to a better atmosphere. (这句子表达得有点乱,可以说,furthermore, the public’s supervision would ensure the reduction or even extinction of similar scandals, which contributes to a better academic atmosphere.) A case that can be presented to develop my point is the great stem-cell scandal in Korea.

However, when this scandal was published(disclosed) to the public and was shocked by the public(shock的逻辑主语应该是scandal, the scandal shocked public or public was shocked by the scandal), what rising in our mind is the arousal of flaws of our normal social system from a lateral facet. It is fairly clear that the Watergate scandal produces a far reaching effect on the USA’s politic field and presses even a(the) whole world. This scandal can not be simply regarded(这句有点chinenglish) but should be considered as a stimulus which can arouse public’s enthusiasm to focus on intricate politic system and consequently create a much more just politic atmosphere.

However, although I admit that scandals can be emphasized to focus our attention in certain areas, it is no denying the fact that among the scandals which are digged out by the press there are some made-up ones just to meet the public's appetites of curiosity and jealousness. Furthermore, most of the readers are(去掉) just keep themselves outside and keep an eye on what is going on instead of doing something from the scandals(taking lessons from scandals ) to purify our society.

In sum, I would paraphrase the issue that scandals can be emphasized by the public media so that it has a better chance to be focused by the public. However, unless it is used to get some experiences and to impede our surrounding society(impede是阻碍吧,逻辑不通,应该是改善才对), we can not say that it can be useful.

很典型的就是结尾句——we can not say that it can be useful.

可以直接说we can hardly consider it useful.
