TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

I concede that it can promote the quality of instruction in certain fields of university for faculty to work outsider academic profession regarding to their majors. However, I cannot agree with the speaker's suggestion that all faculties should be required to do so. To better express my viewpoint, let me illuminate it in details.

Above all, it is impossible and even irrational for all faculties, especially in the field of basic theories and humanities, to take part in practical professions relevant to courses they teach. In these subjects of basic theories, such as theoretical mathematics and physics, astronomy, and so on, the purpose of learning and studying these disciplines is mainly related to teaching, study and further exploration in theory rather than in practical application. In this situation, there could hardly be any practical opportunities to provide for those professors to go in for. As for the humanities, such as literature and philosophy, its goals focus chiefly on the study of related theoretics or guidance to exploration and evolution of other subjects---this is the reason why many graduates of philosophy and art could not ferret out an appropriate room from employment market. On balance, what those above disciplines really need is more abstract and imaginative thinking rather than applying them into practice.

What is more, with the progress of science and technology, there are many other ways for universities and faculty to promote the quality of instruction apart from all faculties engaging in outside practical works. As for colleges, methods contributing to teaching quality involve the long-term academic accumulation, the melioration of teaching facilities, the free and tolerant academic atmosphere etc. When it comes to faculty, in their daily routines as we know, in-service faculties place their limited energy and time not only on activities of teaching and instruction but also on research, exploration, academic communication, and so forth. For the sake of harmony between theory and practice, it is effective method for professors to adopt other ways to enhance their practical experience of the related course, such as video-phone meeting, remote-cooperation, academic discussion and intercourse, and so on. Therefore, by multi-way and hi-tech methods, faculties and colleges can more effectively promote the quality of teaching than only by the speaker’s suggestion.

Admittedly, through taking part in practical works, faculties and students all can stand to gain in multi-way benefits. What a professor gets is relevant to not only his/her practical experience but also his/her academic publication and status. These first-hand and valuable experiences can make him easily to find out an appropriate theme of his/her academic paper as well as boost him to the eminent situation in his\her field. And more, those directly practical experiences can make him and his/her students more close to the current field of industry. From his\her vivid lecture with fresh or up-to-date information about personal practice, students could clearly recognize the trends of industry, and be motivated to chase their real interests as their final career. So, colleges and universities should encourage those professors in the field of the applied specialty to go out campus and apply their knowledge into practice.

In sum, without practice in the outside profession and industrial field, professors could lose the precious opportunities connecting theory with practice; with undue emphasis on the importance of outside academic profession, it must result in irrational and impractical externalism at the expense of destructing the educational quality. So, we should call for a balance between theory and practice for the sake of promoting the teaching quality.

谢谢你的认真修改,你的问题:
1)for faculty to work outsider academic profession regarding to their majors.是不定式短语代替it---主语后置。
2)industry泛指“产业, 行业-- >可以指任何领域。”,具体指代时可以“工业”,industry field: “业界”
3) B1:让所有的领域/科目都参加实践性的工作是不现实的,也是不可能的。
     B2:有多种途径可以提高教学质量。如:学校可以采用的其他途径...(不过这里才是我拿不稳的:题目是说的教员提高教学质量,而我在此扩展到“学校提高教学质量---既:学校也应该为提高教学质量负责”);教员可以采用的其他途径...
     B3:当然,在某些领域,参加实践性的工作是一个学生和教员双赢的局面!
4)结尾:我也是在学习---一种“提高、深化主题/解决问题的方案”的写法。----可能没写好,让你...confusion.

1.并不是所有的教员都可以找到这样的工作,比如基础学科,纯理论
2.除了出去工作,还有其他的方法
3.当然,出去工作也有很多好处

暂时没时间细看,从提纲上看还是比较新的。
有时间看看我的吧,很希望能得到norman在逻辑结构上的指导~~3Q
