In a million times, I heard people complain about the "wrong" decisions and "improper" activities made by government. As the author asserts, both decisions and activities exerts a comprehensive impact to our lives, which is unfortunate. In my view, however, although they inevitably affect all aspects of our lives, we can not treat it as "unfortunate".

To begin with, government decisions and activities have a wide range of impact, even including every facet of people's lives. In accordance with our contemporary enviorenment, our lives can be categorized into two main dimensions: mental life and substantial life. Substantial life, to an extraordinary extent, relates to the economy growth. At the present time, a country will not let free of its economic growth merely based on the free market, while government has to make up some strategies to hold control of the dominant trend of that growth. This can be obviously indicated by political decisions like import-export tax rate in many countries, especially the socialism ones like China. In addition, government has to balance the rate of job loss, which directly impact our way of living. In term of mental life, government as well as some other associations is striving to satisfy the masses on the one hand and not leave them to travel too far on the other. Taking Movie Rating System for example, which was first implemented in 1968, it has strictly categorized millions of movies released, and most of them are categorized into PG-13. That system greatly contributes to mental lives, letting people to choose the appropriate movie according to their situation. Consequently, government decisions and activities obviously affect all aspects of our lives, both mentally and substantially.

Secondly, I hold the belief that we are really not unfortunate despite the political decisions and activities impacting all faucets of our lives. While most people might lend some credence to that assertion indicated by the author, they will not always suffer as long as the dominant trend of social development is toward a bright future. At this point, I can think no better illustration than the matter of the Great Depression begun in 1929. After two years of continuing strike by job-loss, poverty, and lack in trust, America witnessed one of the deepest sorrows in history. Because of failure to prevent further recession, President Hoover was taken place by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt and his New Deal begun to restore national confidence, although never brought total recovery, it did improve economic condition and provided relief to the people. When the masses are suffering from excessive fluctuation whether in property or in belief, government will be always racking brains to make the proper decisions and activities to appease them. Additionally, “Do not think what the country can do for you; think what you can do for your country.” Government represents for a degree of the whole country. If we always regard ourselves as unfortunate because of the decisions and activities, we are a degree of Cynics against our own country. In sum, we, at least it seems so to me, must hold positive views in face of the government strategies.

Last but not least, political leaders must think twice before resolving their decisions and activities especially wars, taking into consideration the following sufferings of people. There are millions of negative effects following numerous wars in history. The most detrimental ones are the World War I & II, which brought forth global suffering. I believe most people in America reckon that they are unfortunate because of the recent war against Iraq resolved by Bush Government. Since we lend credence in our country and government, leaders should possess their people in return, if not, they will lose all their support in a not dissimilar way.

In conclusion, political decisions and activities indeed impact every faucet of our lives. As long as the political leaders always take into consideration the benefits of the masses, we will not treat them as sufferings.
