TOPIC: ISSUE177 - "The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes."

The speaker contends that the knowledge we learn from an academic discipline would help us observe the same world with different eyes. In my observation and experience as a college student, I strongly agree with the speaker's contention in most of time. Not only in natural science but also in arts area, the benefits from different angles observation promote both our field of vision and our society advancement.
To begin with, one need look no further than the study of physics and then he would understand how the study changes our cognitions about time and space while the world still stays the same. At first, people believe that there is absolute space and time in the world when they learned physics knowledge from Newtonian Mechanics in which every happening in the world were all the certain results of the time that sparked off them. Until Einstein Albert established the theories of relativity which challenged the former thought about space and time and studied by many physics at that time, would people believe that absolute time and space did not exist in the world and then realize that the boundary between the two became illegibility. Further, when physics found the Quantum Mechanics, a higher level knowledge about the nature of time and space comes to people's cognition in which we realize that there is full of uncertainty in the world. So, through the study of physics for this long time, our cognition towards the nature of time and space developed accompanied with three great levels while the world stays at the same status.
Secondly, it is the study of biology that alters the way we perceive the origin and development of living creatures in the earth. Before biological academic discipline came out, there were much misunderstanding about the development of creature and many people hold the faith that the God created and determined the destiny of creatures. Until Darwin found his great theory known as " Origin of Species" and explained the phenomenon that people how to survive and passed on their merits to future generations as "natural selection", would not people believe that they can dominate their own faith. With the study of biology discipline, we could know our original lives more better than before and then did not live passively any more.
When it comes to the arts area, it is the same that studying of discipline help us to see the arts work with different eyes. Simply put, with knowledge such as the historical influences and aesthetical discipline, you can appreciate a painting more values than the time when you haven't learned any of arts in academic discipline. Moreover, in the music field, it is the discipline studying that would help you enjoy not only beautiful but also the harmonic structure and rhythmic meters out of the pleasing sound when you listen to one piece of music. Only through the study of an academic discipline in arts could you find more appreciations about them and then enjoy yourself.
In sum, with the study of an academic discipline we can acquire more traits than before. In order to broaden our field of vision, we should not only keep contact with, but also delve into more about the study of academic discipline which does good to our knowledge about the world.
