1.学习效果,看电视不如读书
2.看电视学习不如读书学习方便
3.长期看电视可能对身心健康有害

With the development of modern technology, we have come into a era of television and watching television have become an indispensable part of most people's life. Some of them think that television programs contain so much useful information and knowledge that we can learn as much by watching television as we can by reading books. However, I insist that reading books, as an effective approach of learning could not be replaced by watching television, we should not overlook some inevitable disadvantages of learning by watching television, comparing to reading.

To begin with, reading books could help us study efficiently, while by watching television people could not learn so effective. The reason might lie in the characteristics of their contents. Life experience tells us that television programs are mainly involve recreation materials rather than knowledge, for the purpose of watching television, on most occasions, is a way for people to relax themselves but not learning. So producers try to make their  programs attractive mainly by adding something fun or exciting, instead of including as much knowledge as possible. The knowledge offered by programs are relatively superficial and limited, and watching television could achieve little, if any, to make people study effectively, However, history tells us that books was born to store and spread knowledge. The knowledge carried by books is usually arranged in a systematical way and a series books on a certain discipline always contain detailed and profound knowledge concerning every aspects of discipline, and thereby reading enable people to possess a more deep and  comprehensive understanding of what they learned.

Furthermore, watching television is not so convenient as reading books. The use of television need the supply of electricity and a television set, which we could not carry with  ourselves all the time. While books could accompany with us anywhere we go, and we could read wherever we would like. What is more, if we would like to learn some knowledge about a certain thing, like the history of American, through watching television, we might found sadly that none of the television programs this time is related to American history--what we expect to watch, after we turn on our television. But if we resort to books, we could find some useful information about what we would like to know all the time.

Finally, watching television might exert detrimental effect on our physical and metal health, especially excessive watching it. Television programs are arranged by producers and often broadcast without intermission, regarding to its this nature people do not have the freedom to decide when they could watch a certain program or to stop at anywhere during the program as they wish, unless they are willing to miss some part of it. Some doctors warn us that the habit of spending a long time sitting stilly in front of a television set without proper movement might lead to nearsightedness, obesity, and other healthy problems. Moreover, some sociologists even remind us that watching television, a passive way of receiving information, if your get used to it or even over fascinated by it, would prevent the willingness and ability of active thinking or even undermine your creativity. Whereas, books could be available all the time, and readers could have a rest anytime if they wish. Therefore, unlike  watching television program, reading are not likely to endanger the health of people.

In conclusion, although television could serves as an alternative way for people to learn knowledge, it could not function as well as reading books. It could only offer limited knowledge and passive learning process, and force people, who are unwilling to miss any part of the program they would like to watch, to risk their health. Books could provide us broader and deeper knowledge, and enable us to learn everywhere and anytime, more conveniently and in a more healthy way. For all these reasons, television could not taking the place of reading as a learning method and the importance of reading never reduced by the popularity of television.
