b]In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.
The speaker asserts that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books which results in reading books is not as important as it once was. I admit that the emerging of television provides new way of learning. However, watching television cannot weaken the importance of reading books.
I admit that we can learn some knowledge from watching television. From the early period of last century people invented the television, which has played an important role in our daily life. Television is a vivid mode for us to know news, music, films, commentaries, etc. To some extend, it is a comfortable learning way. Yet, with regarding to another aspect, watching television is a passive process for learning, because you cannot determine what to learn, you just can follow the arrangements of television programs. It is true that it can help us to study, but the nature of television just can lead us to a shallow and non-systemic studying.
However, it is not proper to say that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books, which leads to [that] reading books is less important than it once was. The speaker overlooks learning by reading books has its superiority to watching television. The reasons are as follows.
Firstly, books can express many complicated and logic theories that television cannot transmit thoroughly. For example, if you want to learn the general and special theory of relativity, you cannot distinctly learn from television because of its complexity, even though there may be some programs about this theory, you cannot follow the abstract explains, at last you should resort to books. Additionally, learning by books is more convenient than learning through television. Owing to its small volume and its portability, you can carry your books with you anywhere. You can read it on the bus, in the library, in the park, etc. In contrast, you just can watch television before the television set which is usually at home in a fixed position. Last but not least argument is that reading books is an active learning progress, where we can make choice of what, when and to which extend we want to learn. This learning process is determined by your interests and your needs. If you want to learn by watching television, you just can follow it, what you learn is determined by the television programs.
In the final analysis, watching television can play a certain role on learning, but it cannot reduce the important function of reading books. By reading books we can learn more concrete and more systemic than watching television.
“阅读书籍”与“看电视”之间的比较做得很好,但是对于“看电视”的现在地位与以前的地位之间的比较做的不好。 |
