The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were possible not by the famous few, but by groups whose identities have long been forgotten.
提纲：
尽管我们不能忽视群众的作用，但历史终究纪录的是少数英雄人物的功绩
1。历史是对历史事件的纪录，在历史事件中的关键人物是吸引史学家的所在
2。没有那些英雄人物的领导，仅靠群众往往无法实现目标
3。由于缺少关于群众表现的历史证据，对群众表现的历史研究是很难进行的。

Undoubtedly, the history is not created by one or several individuals not matter how powerful and potent they are. For whether the oriental nations or the occidental nations, whether the developed nations or the developing nations, the history of these nations is created by the vast populace. But, by referring the examination of the historical record, in most cases, it is also sufficient to remark here that it is the famous few that have been commemorated and engraved on the people’s memory.

If we refer to the encyclopedia for the exact definition of the term history, we may find that, history is a kind of record. Its main function is not record the important events and trend that happened in the past. In this respect, historian is like a story teller, and like any other story tellers, emphasis will inevitably be placed on heroes and heroines of the story. Therefore, it makes the history seemingly place too much emphasis on individuals and thus forget the importance of groups of people. When we are reading a history story, we are probably not attracted by the groups of soldiers and common people but rather by the intelligent and valiant commanders. Numerous historians has praised and lauded the glory and feat of King Ahor and his round-table knights, but few has pay attention to the groups of common people beneath them.

Admitted of the important role played by the populace in the historic events and trends, we can not deny the fact that, without the leading of the heroes and heroines, without the great lords’ foresight and bravery, the populace themselves can hardly achieve their goal of whether overthrowing the cruel sovereign or establishing a new regulation. It is hard to imagine how the humble and menial slaves could combat the cruel and ruthless sovereign for freedom without the leading of Spardacus; how hundreds of millions of Chinese people can overthrow the despotism to establish a democratic regulation with out Sun Yat-sen’s guidance and leading.

After all, it is hard and even impossible for historians to record precisely the specific performance of the millions of people during the historic events thoroughly and comprehensively. Although, it is responsibility of the study of history to record as completely as possible what has happened in the past, due to the limitation of the evidence and information, in most cases, today’s historical study can only figure out precisely what was done by the leading person of the historic events, for there may be relatively sufficient pieces of evidence and information relevant to such person compared with the ones related to the common people. therefore, researching on the feats of the famous few may be an effective way for us to study the history.

In conclusion, the study of history is a tool to demonstrate as clearly and comprehensively as possible the historic events and trends. Although with out denying, the vast populace played a very important role in such events, we can not ignore the fact that, hero and heroin may best represent a specific historical era. By learning about their feats and achievements  we can  know about the past effeciently.
