for you
Should the value of the study of history depend on whether it is relevant to our daily life? The speaker claims so, and I partly agree with the speaker. I concede that some study of history is relevant to our daily life and it can help people make better decision, but others that is not suitable for today still has their value.
In the first place, the study of history actually sometimes relates to our daily lives and brings us benefit as what speaker claims. As an illustration, through the study of history, we can know the experience of our ancestors. Sometimes their experience of success or failure can be taken as precedent or precaution so as to guide our action and then help us avoid turning into a wrong way during the process of pursuing success. Moreover, some men made disaster in the history provide to(可以去掉to) us so important caveats that human beings today will try their best to prevent such disaster from reappearing. A telling example involves the study of the world war one and world war two. These two wars cause so many deaths that bring a great disaster to human beings. From studying of these wars human beings realize the importance of peace, and today international society place an emphasis on tackle issues through mild ways such as negotiations instead of drastic ways such as wars which might lead to high cost of human beings. In conclusion, by learning the experience of past people and analyzing the reasons of disaster in history, people will surly live better in the future.
In the second place, we can not always expect to use the successful methods in the history to deal with the complex problems today, because different periods of history have different background. And such differences might sometimes lead to completely different results if we copy the ancestors' deed. As a case in point, for lacking of the material to sustain their lives, people lived in thousands of years ago cut trees to build houses and hunting some wild animals as their food. But for today's people, if they do the same thing in order to lighten the crisis of energy, then terrible result will appear. With rainforests' eliminating, the greenhouse effect will threat the survival of human beings, and the delicate balance upon which all animals depend will be broken if we hunting so many precious wild animals. Although we can not use some methods in the past, it does not mean that learning such knowledge of history has no(meaninglessness没有字典,不知道对不) meaning. In fact, we have a deeper understanding of people who lived in the past and gaining knowledge itself is a thing worthy to do.
I don't think we should consider whether it will help us deal with issues coming out today before doing the study of history. On the one hand, we can not simply make a conclusion that it is or not relevant to our daily life. Potential value is often ignored by human beings. It might possible that under some certain cases in the future, it might turn out to be useful. In other words, we can not predict things that haven't happened well and truly, so we can not(evaluate) judge its value. On the other hand, even it appears to be not relevant to our daily life, as the view I bring forward in my second paragraph, acquest (acquisition)of knowledge itself is a thing worthy to do.
In sum, the study of history sometimes has a relationship to our daily life and can be helpful in guiding our actions. But there still some have nothing to do with our daily life, and such knowledge of history also have value because through it we can have a good understanding of our ancestors. Moreover, we should not judge whether it is helpful before the study, for we can not and needn't do so.
