059-Role imitating Vs Independent thinking"Too much emphasis isplaced on role models. Instead of copying others, people should learn to thinkand act independently and thus make the choices that are best for them."
Role model: a person whosebehavior in a particular role is imitated by others
Role: a socially expectedbehavior pattern usually determined by an individual's status in a particularsociety
同意。
现在越来越多的人——那些行为具有受大家喜爱favorable: marked by success的模式的人——被普通人和在这方面能力一般的人尊崇venerate: to regard with reverential respect or with admiringdeference为模范。模范被关注的如此之多以至于人人都想模仿:imitate, copy, pattern, try to be like, emulate他们的行为和生活方式和其他方面,期望lay one’s accountwith:拥有:own, posses, in possession of, 和他一样的能力得到和他一样的成绩:achievement, success。
Make a concrete analysis of concreteconditions
Solve specific problems; deal with nuts andbolts

In recent years more and more individualswho have particular behaviors in favorable pattern are venerated by commonpeople as role models and attract much attention of the society. People likethe behavior pattern they possess or admire them for their success andachievements and thus copy them. The imitation of stars, especially for theyoung and children, is a typical instance. The fashion style is often copied bytheir fans. On this phenomenon, I hold the same opinion with the speaker thatpeople should decide by themselves, which I will reason as follows.
Everyone in the world has his particularcharters including his advantages and disadvantages and thus is different fromany other person. The choice one's role model makes may not suit him. Considerthe pop stars and sports stars on which too much emphasis is placed by theirfans. Copying the fashion style which makes a pop star brilliant on the stagemay contra give a common person a silly look. People should make concreteanalysis on concrete conditions independently and thus make the decisions whichare most suitable for them. Many people admire the role models because of theirachievement and success and emulate them blindly. In fact, most of the time, itis not the behavior pattern but the capability or talent that a personpossesses that contributes to one's achievement. Take Bill Gates for example,it is the particular and accurate foresight in IT and the extraordinary creativitythat make his success instead his leaving school 32 years ago, about which heshowed regret recently. The simple copying of his leaving school andestablishing business is stupid.
Besides the lack of consideration ofpersonal conditions and characteristics, the loss of one's own meaning of lifeis another reason that people should not try to be like role models. Emulatingothers blindly will make a person think less and less and eventually lose theability of thinking and creating independently, which is the main differencebetween human being and animals. Maybe there are some exceptional cases thatthe imitators enjoy copying their role models, but the loss of thinking andcreativity is definitely harmful for them, especially for the teenagers.
Thus, people who try to be like their rolemodels without consideration of personal characteristics and analysis of theconcrete conditions should stop emulating blindly, think independently, andmake a decision that is best for them.
