TOPIC: ARGUMENT180 - The following is a recommendation from the personnel director to the president of Acme Publishing Company.

"Many other companies have recently stated that having their employees take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course has greatly improved productivity. One graduate of the course was able to read a five-hundred-page report in only two hours; another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in under a year. Obviously, the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb in a single workday. Moreover, Easy Read costs only $500 per employee-a small price to pay when you consider the benefits to Acme. Included in this fee is a three-week seminar in Spruce City and a lifelong subscription to the Easy Read newsletter. Clearly, Acme would benefit greatly by requiring all of our employees to take the Easy Read course."
WORDS: 432          TIME: 00:39:55          DATE: 2008/2/9 23:12:13

The personnel director recommends to the president that all their employee should take a fast reading course to gain more profit. To support it, he pointed out that other companies and individuals have already benefit from that course. This statement seems to be logical, but with closer scrutiny, we find out several faults as follows.

Firstly, there are some problems in the evidences that provided. First, "many" is too vague a number that cannot show how effectiveness of this course because we does not know the total number of the companies, in which "many" might be only occupied a small percentage. Secondly, one of the graduates, who was able to read a five-hundred-page report only two hours, can not represent all the other students, for possibly he had been very capable at reading and that speed maybe even slower than his average speed in the past. In addition, granted that the reading ability of that reader has been improved, "five-hundred-page" is not a clear description to show the present speed. Are there only one or two words on each page or how large is that page? In that way, two minutes for a small amount of words seems to waste a lot of time. Also, there are many problems about the other graduate. He rose to a higher position and this does not mean that it is because of the improvement in reading skills, not to say the training taken by the course. Obviously, the main reason for a person to do better job cannot be sure of the reading skills only and many other factors, such as a new discovery in his field of work, an efficient suggestion, the accumulation of his outstanding work appearance, can  also attribute to the change. Without any further information about the real effect on the graduates, the evidence is open to doubt.

Secondly, the auger's statement that "the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb" seems to be a reason to improve the productivity. To begin with, reading faster does not mean absorbing. If you want to understand the meaning of the words on the paper, you need to think, remember and even put the knowledge into practice, all of which  takes time, so reading can not ensure the result of the capacity. In addition, even if the skills of absorbing information rose after the course, given that not all the companies depend on the amount of the information that owned by its employee, we can not make a connection between the reading skills and the productivity.

To sum up, the argument is not well reasoned.

The personnel director recommends to the president that all their employees should take a fast reading course to gain more profit. To support it, he pointed out that other companies and individuals have already benefited from that course. (时态不一致,一般用现在时)This statement seems to be logical, but with closer scrutiny, we find out several faults as follows.
              开头很简练

Firstly, there are some problems in the evidences that provided. First, "many" is too vague a number that cannot show how effectiveness of this course because we does not know the total number of the companies, in which "many" might be only occupied a small percentage. Secondly, (段首用了firstly,最好换组词,如on the one/other handone of the graduates, who was able to read a five-hundred-page report only two hours, can not represent all the other students, for possibly he had been very capable at reading and that speed maybe even slower than his average speed in the past. In addition, granted that the reading ability of that reader has been improved, "five-hundred-page" is not a clear description to show the present speed. Are there only one or two words on each page or how large is that page? In that way, two minutes for a small amount of words seems to waste a lot of time. (这个假设很有意思) Also, there are many problems about the other graduate. (这一句与下面的论述似乎没有很大的联系,逻辑脱节)He rose to a higher position and this does not mean that it is because of the improvement in reading skills, not to say (mention) the training taken by the course.

              感觉这点单独作为一个缺陷最好不要作为主要的,因为作者主要是说course results in productivity,这个只是中间的推论

To sum up, the argument is not well reasoned.
              结尾太仓促了,这个不用多说了,应该是赶时间吧
