51. "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

1.让步:interests are the best teachers.
2.education has more obligation to carry out, to educate students into well-rounded citizens.
3.personally, interests are changeable, thus difficult to be satisfied.
4.on societal level, education should spend least money, time and energy to achieve most. It is not effective to place all the eggs in one basket.

11:25-12:35
Education is the basal stone of modern society, through which our children grow up into the backbones of our society. The question is, will education be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student? While I admit that interests do much to promote studies and discoveries, I believe that education has a much more urgent obligation to educate students into well-rounded citizens than to solely meet their individual needs and interests, on the basis that personal interests are changeable and difficult to be satisfied, therefore not truly effective if education has to take the burden to meet each student's needs.

Admittedly, interests play a key role in promoting inventions and discoveries. "Interests are the best teachers", said Thomas Edison, one of the greatest inventors in human history. Take Edison himself as an example. He began his career as an inventor early in his life, but made no money by his early inventions. However, he did not turn to other profitable jobs, but sticked to his interests. But for his rich interests in making contrivance, human would see much later the appearance of the phonograph, the incandescent lamp and the electric power distribution systems, to name a few. Interests are the internal incentive to dig out one's full potential. If we only work for money or other external motivations, we can scarcely put all our hearts into it. We may easily feel bored and tired. On the contrary, if we work for our interests, we consider the hard work to be fun, hence we will try our best and actually make contributions to the society.

Given the ponderance of interests, some claim that it is education's obligation to fulfill the interests and needs of each student. However I strongly maintain that the most important obligation of education is to cultivate students into eligible citizens to develop our society. Hence education should not only provide students with fundamentals of physical science, social science and humanities, but also morality, courtesy and interpersonal skills. Unless a student manages all the disciplines above, he/she will not be a qualified person to step into the society. Consider a student who is fascinated with math. Should education provide good teachers, useful resources and environment to satisfy his/her interests? I agree insofar as education also can teach the student other fundamentals for his/her survival in the society. If the student is only educated into a math-stuffed head without basic skills to communicate and cooperate with other people, he/she may not contribute to the society at all, since few can accept and understand his/her talented math theories. To cultivate interests and to provide fundamental knowledge of all disciplines are like the two wings of a bird, if they are not well-balanced, the bird cannot fly high in the sky.

Moreover, I disagree the assertion that education specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests in consideration of two facts. For one thing, personal interests are so changeable with time that they are hard to be satisfied. This reminds me of a high school classmate of mine, who was once obsessed with physics. She invested much in this interests, such as buying books, hiring tutors and attending competitions. However, after graduation from high school, she felt bored with physics and put away all physics books and chose to major in business in college. I do not think the former investment on physics is rather effective. For another thing, on societal level, we cannot afford such large spending to meet each student's interests. As time, money and energy are limited, education should spend the least of them to achieve most. As I previously said, education should offer students all-rounded knowledge and skills. It is not wise to put all eggs in only one basket, that is, education should not be required to solely meet individual needs, in this case.

To sum up, although interests are significant motivations for discoveries and innovations, it should not be education's obligation to meet each student's interests for the reasons that education has much more responsibility to take and education is not effective to only fulfill changeable personal needs and interests given the limited time, energy and resources.

Interests are the internal incentive to dig out one's full potential. If we only work for money or other external motivations, we can scarcely put all our hearts into it.[感觉不太顺畅,不知道对不对,azalea确认一下,换成with all our hearts 可能会好点] We may easily feel bored and tired. To sum up, although interests are significant motivations for discoveries and innovations, it should not be education's obligation to meet each student's interests for the reasons that education has much more responsibility to take and education is not effective to only fulfill changeable personal needs and interests given the limited time, energy and resources.

Effectiveness means the capability of, or success in, achieving a given goal. Contrary to efficiency, the focus of effectiveness is the achievement as such, not the resources spent, so not anything that is effective has to be efficient, but anything that is efficient also has to be effective. Efficiency is the capability of acting or producing effectively with a minimum amount or quantity of waste, expense, or unnecessary effort. "Efficiency" has widely varying meanings in different disciplines.

Note that the term "efficient" is very much confused and misused with the term "effective".

Education is the basal stone of modern society, through which our children grow up into the backbones of our society. The question is(that) will education be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student? While I admit that interests do much to promote studies and discoveries, I believe that education has a much more urgent obligation to educate students into well-rounded citizens than to solely meet their individual needs and interests, on the basis that personal interests are changeable and difficult to be satisfied, therefore not truly effective if education has to take the burden to meet each student's needs./ Education, many of us believe, is the basal stone of modern society ,through which our children fully develop their personality, becoming the backbones of our society. But when it comes to the question that whether education is truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual need and interests of each student ,people’s opinions vary. And I contend that even though interests of students have a significant influence upon their future invention or discovery, meeting the individual needs and interests of each students is not practical nor a burden that can be taken by the school/

On the contrary, if we work for our interests, we consider the hard work to be fun; hence we will try our best and actually make contributions to the society. / Admittedly, interest is an important stimulus of inventions or discoveries. "Interests are the best teachers", said Thomas Edison, one of the greatest inventors in human history. Take Edison himself as an example, who began his career as an inventor early in his life and sticked to it even though at first he made little money from his early inventions. But for his interests in making contrivance, human would see much later the appearance of the phonograph, the incandescent lamp and the electric power distribution systems, to name just a few. Interests are the driving force to fully develop one’s potential, which makes it possible for us to convert the boring or tiring routine work into an interesting life experience, meaningfully contributing to our society   /

I agree insofar as education also can teach the student other fundamentals for his/her survival in the society. If the student is only educated into a math-stuffed head without basic skills to communicate and cooperate with other people, he/she may not contribute to the society at all, since few can accept and understand his/her talented math theories. To cultivate interests and to provide fundamental knowledge of all disciplines are like the two wings of a bird, if they are not well-balanced, the bird cannot fly high in the sky./ concerning the important role played by interest, some claim that it is our responsibility to fulfill the interests and needs of each student .However, I contend that education amounts far more than learning the fundamentals of physical science, social science and humanities that one needs to excel  in one’s later life; it also facilitates an understanding of themselves and tolerance and respect for the viewpoints of others ,which can be acquired through communication among classmates ,in other words, education should lay more emphasis on helping students fully develop their personality and so after they graduate from school they will  meaningfully contribute to our society and less on the individualize changing interests . This point may be illustrated by concerning about a student ,who is fascinated in math ,should we meet his/her math interest or just teach him/her with other students. /

Moreover, I disagree the assertion that education specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests in consideration of two facts(,based on two facts). For one thing, personal interests are so changeable with time that they are hard to be satisfied. This reminds me of a high school classmate of mine, who was once obsessed with physics. She invested much in these interests, such as buying books, hiring tutors and attending competitions. However, after graduation from high school, she felt bored with physics and put away all physics books and chose to major in business in college. I do not think the former investment on physics is rather effective. For another thing, on societal level, we cannot afford such large spending to meet each student's interests. This may be illustrated by the story about one of my high school classmate, who was once obsessed with physics and invested both time and energy in it. However, after graduating from high school, she felt physics so boring that she put away all physics books and majored in business in college. I do not think she gained anything from the former investment in physics. For another thing, on societal level, it is not practical nor we can afford to meet each student's interests because of the limited time and money as well as energy;/

Should education provide good teachers, useful resources and
environment to satisfy his/her interests? I agree insofar as education also can teach the student other fundamentals for his/her survival in the society. If the student is only educated into a math-stuffed head without basic skills to communicate and cooperate with other people, he/she may not contribute to the society at all, since few can accept and understand his/her talented math theories. since few can accept and understand his/her talented math theories与合作交流的联系好像不大,一些极端,一个人要是数学好的话,在现今社会一样会很好的为社会作贡献,就算他的就交流合作能力有限 To cultivate interests and to provide fundamental knowledge of all disciplines are like the two wings of a bird, if they are not well-balanced, the bird cannot fly high in the sky.

Moreover, I disagree the assertion that education specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests in consideration of two facts. For one thing, personal interests are so changeable with time that they are hard to be satisfied. This reminds me of a high school classmate of mine, who was once obsessed with physics. She invested much in this interestsinterest, such as buying books, hiring tutors and attending competitions. However, after graduation from high school, she felt bored with physics and put away all physics books and chose to major in business in college. I do not think the former investment on physics is rather effective. 好像这个各个个例,如果你能举出来这是一个普遍存在的问题,那么才会导致not effectiveFor another thing, on societal level, we cannot afford such large spending to meet each student's interests.
