"The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most signif
icant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, b
ut by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."
我的观点是一边倒的支持无名英雄,不知道是不是太偏了
In the classroom children are taught that Columbus was the first person who found the continent of America, and president Lincoln was honored as the one who lead to liberty of the black people. It seems that few take interest in the crews on Columbus’ ships, or the soldiers in the War Between the States, as we have been so familiar to the stories that a hero saves the whole world, and are not aware to the truth that no hero can do his job alone actually. Our historical study is more likely to present us a list of famous names for kings, politicians, generals, inventors and some other kind of decisive figures like that, whom we thought to be responsible for the significant events and trends, rather than the necessary mass effort behind them. It is superficial to study history events only through the key figures, because a comprehensive understanding of which requires a fine analyze of the mass people that really forced the events to happen.
1 Throughout the development of human civilization can we see that the majority of any great social advance and other grave matters laid in the mass people, at least a certain group. Without the indispensable supportive work of former people, the famous figures in history would have failed to achieve their great success. The fact is that soldiers won the wars and the citizens fought for their rights, while we are referring to some generals or politicians instead. However much an important role those famous figures would have played in the significant events, they were merely the leader or speaker of the people who had demanded them to do so. The only thing that does not change is the inevitable progress of human society, which does not stop to wait for some hero but just create one instead when it needs.
2 As we discussed, a famous person in history is actually merely the most representative one among those who committed themselves in a relative significant event. It is always the case that a single name is easier and more preferred to be remembered with the historical events than some group of people, thus was a team success bound only to the name of the single leading person while the work of the group was buried in the dust of history. In the history we have learnt that the inner motives of social reforms and other great changes in either political, cultural or scientific domains come from the demand of the mass, whose power is indeed responsible for every big matter in the history. That power accumulates silently but decisively, and raises any one appropriate as the leading role in an innovation, rather than waiting for some hero to force the process. In this means, the famous few that we have always mentioned about for the significant history events, on the other hand, are replaceable. Even if Lincoln didn’t become a present and lead American to liberty of the black, another present will do it sooner or later, since the fast industry development of the North America at that time urgently demanded human labor, as well as the spread of democracy and fine humanity requires a society of equality in race.
3 The important work of mass people should be valued more than ever. The fact that significant events are made possible largely by ordinary people rather than somewhat born genius person should be emphasized to encourage people. Ever since school time did it come that not everybody can get the first, and we have long admired those champions rather than realizing the value of ourselves. One might not be remembered by people in the future, but it is true that those famous ones have done little more than him in contributing to the history. A famous figure is mostly like the one runs the last part for the team in a relay race, who breaks the line with the relay baton handed from his teammates. There is always a last runner in a team, regardless who he or she is, and the victory should belong to everyone in the team.
Along the history only a few luckily had their names remembered and honored, while most of the people who actually contributed to the society were left forgotten. It is for us to reveal the truth and make it known to the public people, that everyone of us is a valued component of the society as well as those greatly honored historic figures.
