When faced with the claim that the greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries, my point of view disagrees with it(disagree的主语应该是人). Because many great persons have been given different opinions in their time and in history(这两个词放在并列的位置ms不大好), I believe that to judge an individual should combine the opinions of their contemporaries and those who live after them, which will draw a comprehensive and precise conclusion of the people.
To retrospect the history, there were many great persons whose achievements were overwhelmed or denied by their contemporaries, and their contributions were not acknowledged until present. Thus as the people live after them, the large amount of evidence and be beyond of the bound of certain space-time limited provides us an objective and precise view of them and their feat and makes us decide their greatness comprehensively(这句话好复杂,比较菜,没看明白,主语是啥). Such examples are not rare in history. Austrian composer Schubert, though he wrote many famous songs , he(前面有主语了) was not appreciate(appreciated) by his contemporaries and his working was kept impublic(没查到这个词) and not be recognized as great composers(an great composer) until many songs he wrote were published and acknowledged to the world long after his death.
More over, some person’s(persons’) theories or working of arts have a(a不要) far-reaching influences on the posterities, which can be recognized only by the offspring. Therefore, it is proper the greatness of the person should be decided by those who live after them. Take the(要不要的?) Confucius as an(a) good example. Confucius is a Chinese philosopher, (and) his theory Confucianism influences the Chinese people over thousands (of) years and plays an important and irreplaceable role in Chinese history and culture, even now some of the ideas of Confucianism are be respected in China, such as to respect the old people, to be harmonic with neighbors, and so on. And the long-lasting effect the Confucianism exerts on the Chinese was hardly be realized at the time, so it is the posterities (who)give it a comprehensive judgement(judgment).
However, the opinion of contemporaries should not be ignored, apart from the view of the offspring, ascribing to that for certain greatness, the contemporaries experience more beneficial (benefits)than the posterities, and be the witness of the time, the praise of contemporaries comparably be justified than any others’(不知道这个用法对不对). The policy Roosevelt hold during the Depression in U.S., have contributed to revive and flourish the economics(economy) , and decrease the unemployment, which benefit all the U.S. people and bring Roosevelt sharp rising in fame and praising. During the time of depression, Roosevelt may be the most effective leaders(leader) and his feat was highly extolled by contemporaries. From the evaluations on individual greatness, the value of these greatness on the contemporaries could be drawed(drawn) and apply it(applied) to the study of the greatness( 是不是学习这种精神的意思,感觉很中国味).
As a summary of what had been recounted, that the greatness of an individual should be decided by both the contemporaries and the future generations, for the simple reason that the combination of the two kinds of judedment(judgment) will provides(provide) an objective and precise point of view and make the comprehensive understanding of the greatness.
