Quickly developing technology has undoubtedly changed many ways of living of people. However, the viewpoint of the speaker that considering that television and worldwide computer connections provide familiarity with plenty of places of interest, there is no need for tourism any more is obviously inconsiderate as it stands. I’ll explain it in details.
Admittedly, television and worldwide computer connections do help us to get some knowledge of the places we have never visited. For example, a tourist who wants to visit America can completely see any famous place in America on internet. An actual photograph of the Statue of Liberty brings about the feint that you were in front of it; a length of video on the net provides the feeling that you are following the guide to go through Golden Gate Bridge; a scene of children playing blissfully in Disneyland makes you feel like you were there in faith. You can see everywhere throughout the world if you want.
However, even though television and internet endow us with some knowledge of places we have never been to, it can not replace tourism that simply. One of the most important purposes of tourism is to relax people from tiring work for a period of time, which apparently can not be accomplished by just watching television or connecting any of the computers on internet. Living in the fast moving society in the present age, people are suffering tire and bore in surge of burdensome assignments, which can be effectively relieved by a period of visiting in a strange place. People experience unacquainted customs and human relationship without any worry about practical life, which is totally unreachable by merely watching television or connecting on the internet in a short while.
Furthermore, tourism plays another significant role in surrounding us with fresh customs of another place, which can give birth to profound sentiment and wisdoms for our lives. In the totally strange place and human relationship, we can always be touched by tremendous zest of foreigners, by the thirst for happy life of the poor or by the toilsome struggle of farmers, all of which arouse our meditation about the philosophy of life and endow us with wisdom for life. We can be more content with the current lives, more zesty about fresh knowledge, more cherished of what we have got, more generous to what we have lost. Therefore, we will be able to lead a happier life.
To sum up, television and worldwide computer connections lack crucial function compared with tourism although they can bring about some knowledge of places of interest and play limited role as tourism in faith. Tourism, as an inevitable fruition of human being’s society and culture, can not be easily substituted in the foreseeable future.
