50"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."
为了提高大学的教学质量,所有的教职员工应该去校外参加一些和他们教的课程相关的工作

There's no doubt that any board of the college or the university would like to pave the way for the school to improve the quality of instruction. Some might accomplish it by hiring professors with high academic prestige, others might like to provide more chances for teachers to participate in the collaboration between school allies. The speaker claims that requiring faculty members to spend time working in the relating professions outside the pure academic world would be more beneficial than other strategies. While I would hardly impose questions on this allegation if it is implicated to some qualified courses, involving all fields of teaching into this plan might not only bring little help for improving instruction quality, but could probably be counterproductive.

It could be easily understood that effective college teachers are the ones who help students to establish the academic way of thinking while confronted with variety of puzzles and obstacles in their learning or later career lives. Only through personal experience could the teacher pick out the key points among piles of theories, principles and thoughts, which engender great improvement in teaching efficiency. Names of CEO of top-ten business corporations frequently appear on the faculty member list of leading management schools, professors of clinical departments of the teaching hospitals always occupy places in famous medical schools like John Hopkins, Harvard or UCLA. Experienced professor in surgery would inform the medical students to focus more on congenital diseases while a teen-ager suffers severely from coughing and dyspnea in the ER, other than simply guiding those interns to browse the common symptoms in Merk-handbook. Or possibly will he specifies the topic of fibrosclerosis, one of the most common genetic diseases among Caucasian teen-agers manifesting progressive respiratory failure, during the lecture concerning about physical diagnosis.  Those who practice in the relevant profession have the great sensitivity in comparing the significance of different topics and show the supreme perspicuity. And only could such lectures give students great impressions of sufficient way of thinking, analyzing and problem solving.

Nevertheless, not every field of study and teaching could get benefit from relevant profession. And sometime we even could not find the counterpart in professional world. The theoretical study of Mathematics, Physics and Philosophy quickly catch up my mind. Anyone would consider it ridiculous for an education administrator to ask a math professor or a philosopher to carry out the work out of their academic world. And every body would wonder what advantage they could make even if they find a place in the professional world. On the contrary, this dogmatic procedure might interrupt their continuous work for the vain purpose of promoting the teaching efficiency or could suffocate the breakthrough of the field for the shortsighted educational strategy.  I believe if this was the prerequisite for any teachers in the university, Steven Hawking would be probably asked to document the mysterious spots in the pure sky at the observatory in Scotland for years and contemporary people were still in the smog of the existence of the black whole.

In sum, teaching is another form of arts, which deserves its special way to pursuing the goal of effectiveness. The quality of instruction could not merely refer to the attraction for the prospective students or the reputation of the university, it is has the long-term effect of modeling authentic scholars who would be the pillar of the society and elite in the human history. Any judicious board would provide the sufficient space for faculties to develop their teaching skills, by correlating the pragmatic professional work or emphasizing on theoretical research.

总结一下,楼主是不是医学专业的哈,举那么专业的例子。词汇很好,个别语句可能由于写的匆忙有错(偶不认为是楼主不会所以没有意义指出)。论点也还是比较清晰滴。加油加油
